vengsarkar as chairman selection committee.

It is good to see a genuine crickter to head the selection process.my suggestion to Mr Vensarkar that he should not fall under the official influnce or zonal influence.he should select best team to make our country proud.one thing it is true that he is not having the opportunity tacties like earlier selectors.it is high time that most senior players like kapil, gavaskar, ravi, srikant,M.amarnath to be called.and same time our cricket associations should think to say goodbye to non cricketers as office bearers.only proffessional cricketers should rule BCCI.

Vengsarkar is tipped to become chairman of national selection panel
by Ravula Vijay on Sep 23, 2006 01:32 PM

It is heartening to know that Mr. Dilip Vengsarkar is going to become chairman of selection commitee. Finally recognision came to Mr Vengsarkar. I used to follow his game and watch him playing for India. I have seen him scoring his last 8 centuries and I still remeber the way he played along with Kapil Dev in a match against Newzealand in Beson and Hedges Cup, 1985, which India won. I expected he will be part of Indian cricket adminstration. Even though he was appointed as a chairman of National talent serch commitee to identify the young promising cricket players, there was no one to take his observations and findings seriously.

Even now, I feel that even though Vengsarkar as a chairman of national selection panel, things will not improve because the selection of players goes by majority voting. It was shocking to know from Mr. Kiran More's statements that the Chairman can not do anything if three of the selection committee members sit together at some secluded place (the meeting most probably will be arranged by the sponsorers of players) and come to the selection commitee meeting with a list containing the players of their interest.

Definetly this is a good move in the favour of Indian cricket. His experience and deep understanding of the game will help the selection process. He is one of the key person who prepared the current youth brigade of Indian team. Good Luck Colonel.

Vengsarkar as Chief Selector
by DEEPAK NADKARNI on Sep 22, 2006 01:43 PM

It is a very good news that a sportsman like Vengsarkar will be occupying the post. He should be neutral in his selection and not swing like Kiran More who finally may not have realised he is on whose side?

A request to the new selector. Pl take Ganguly back. It was a shame that such a pitiful treatment being meted out to the most successful captain of Indaia.

Vengsarkar to head selection panel

Sir,
It was very refreshing to read that Mr. Dilip Vengsarkar would head the selection panel. Mr. Vengsarkar is known as a gentleman and a fair-minded cricketer who will no doubt do ustice to young promising players without falling prey to petty considerations like regionalism.
I distinctly recall my late friend Ajit Moye, a distinguished sports writer of yesteryears, who had seen Vengsarkar blossoming into a great player from close quarters, and had a share in focussing attention on this talented young man through writings in Sportsweek, tell me often about Vengsarkar's level-headedness, matured approach and fairness of mind. Moye used to always tell me right from the beginning that Vengsarkar would not only shine as a player but also take up good position in cricket arena in life ahead. Moye sadly is no more. But I can definitely say that his words are coming true. Many of Vengsarkar's contemporaries(in cricket) would testify to late Moye's objectivity in his writings about players and things assocaited with cricket in good old days. I wish Vengsarkar good luck.

RE: Vengsarkar to head selection panel ?

For some time now large sections of knowledgeable cricket enthusiasts have been saying: Mr. Dilip Vengsarkar chief selector "Zhalahch Pahije".

The legendary Indian middle order batsman has tons and tons of experience at the highest level. His three consecutive centuries at Lords and his whirlwind knock in an Irani Cup match in Vidharbha where he mauled the Indian world renowned spinners is still fresh on our somewhat ageing hard disks. To many of us that knock was the defining moment with which Mr. Dilip Vengsarkar announced his entry into international cricket.

Many among us in Goa loved the counter attacking skills of the supremely organized and stylish Mumbaikar.

The late Mr. Ajit Moye through his very lively, insightful analysis and reports used to inspire many sports loving readers in Goa.

Mr. Ajit Moye and journalist the late Mr. Umesh Mahambrey served us with great dedication through their regular writings for over quarter of a century. It used to be a joy to be with them and to relish their narratives. Sadly the two young and dynamic journalists are no more.

May the Giver of life grant them eternal rest. Our heartfelt condolences to their loved ones.
