I agree with Deljitsingh's views. I would like to add something to it. Modern Indian cricketers somehow lack nationalistic spirit. It looks like that they do not play for their nation and fans. Looking at their body language, it seems that they do not regret for their dismal performance and errors on the field. I am afraid that in the long run Indian cricket will meet with the same fate as our hockey.

'Batsmen are a pampered lot' Ganguly flops for Northants

Indian cricketers are getting money, because BCCI and sponsorers giving them. They can afford to give such big amount to cricketers, because we are paying that much money to them. Now to look them better than they actually are, the pitches etc. are prepared accordingly. Otherwise if we understand that they are not good (like in Hockey) we won't pay much attention to them and money will not flow. So if there is any pampering, we the public actually doing it and media is helping to create the hype. We like stars, we like celebreties, we like discussing about them, their excessive wealth etc. and get angry when they fall from the grace and looks ordinary. Probably because we understand that we were behaving foolishly before - that makes us more annoyed. If we think that our crickets are a pampered lot, just avoid cricket. Instead of spending time in watching and reading and discussing about them, if we play some sports we can keep ourselves fit and cricketers will also not get that abnormally rich. It is in our hand - almost. But anyway, watching and praising or blaming is much easier than doing something actually, so we prefer to what we were used to do, and will always do.

I agree that batsmen, infact most of our cricket players are pampered a lot
by A.A.P on Nov 15, 2006 01:50 PM

Today a player playing in team India side is not playing for the nation with the same national feeling as the previous cricketers used to play. They play with a personal feeling which goes parallel to their bank balance. One of the biggest reason is that now they are models for those people who dont know abc of cricket through the advertisements unlike previously when only people who had interest in cricket used to know them through their performance on the cricket field. In short todays cricketers are so much pampered through the media that they perform more seriously and honestly off the cricket field whether it is in advert for shaving blades, suitings shirtings, ballpens or more recently walking on the ramps with pretty female models. Will he be serious with his bat or ball, no, he has achieved much much more fame name and money thanks to the dangerous master plans of Multinational companies as to HOW TO TURNAROUND THE CAREER GRAPH OF THE PERFORMING INDIAN SPORTS PLAYERS.
Pay them more in ads and when they cant concentrate on the playing field they will be demoralised and taken out like Saurov.Add to this dirty politics of a coach who is not INDIAN but a player of the no.1 side

Pampered lot

It is a very correct description of our batsmen of today.First of all, they get too much money than they deserve. The moment they have played one or two good innings, they start appearing in commercials, i.e.more money. They are really pampered.Look at a seasoned batsman like Rahul Dravid. He does not bother to bring his bat down when taking a run and makes himself vulnerable. It is the same thing with Inzamam. It is high time the players are paid as per the performance and made to toil hard to achieve that.No point in blaming sporting pitches when you do not know how to bat on them!

Well totally agreed that the modern day batsmen r pampered, a wicket giving even a little bit of help for the bowlers is not acceptable to them. Ricky Ponting was whinning like a baby when australia lost mumbai test to india, agreed the pitch then was too bowler friendly, but we'v seen pitches where 434 runs were successfully chased in an ODI, no one thinks abt the bowlers then.
But i dont know why some people have a problem if cricketers are making money, i dont think even you would mind getting paid like that for doing a lousy job like the cricketers are doing.
