Mr. Polly Umrigar, the perfect all rounder in early 60s in cricket world, is still in my memory as I used to hear commentary in those days of the matches through relays from radio. I used to sit with score card right in front of the radio and enjoyed the strokes of the said cricketer. I used to collect the photos as appearing in newspapers then. The running commentary then was extremely superb. I had no mind to appreciate then the good fielding aspects except stroke play.He was very good in bowling too as an accurate off spinner.
I am really pained to hear the sudden demise of the great cricketer at his 80th age. Let his soul rest in peace. It is nice to note that Mr. Umrigar was born in the year 1926 when Sathya Sai Baba was born and descended as Avatar in our Motherland. I consider our Umrigar as a fortunate soul then. It is also nice to hear that BCCI president Shri Sharad Pawar- ji had sanctioned an all-expenses-paid medical aid, something that is beyond the Rs. 3 lakh granted.I am equally interested now to know as to how this great Man Mr Polly Umrigar had led his life after retirement from the cricket world. sitarman s
