Across the country academies for grooming bowlers, batsmen and fielders are making their presence felt. Even budding aspirants from overseas do come to such academies in our country for training and exposure.
It is time for those at the helm to start a full fledged Cricket Academy where candidates could be trained to become top umpires, pitch curators, groundsmen, cricket team managers, cricket coaches, cricket media managers and cricket administrators. Serious work has to start at the grassroot level so that qualified people can be offered for the service and overall improvement of the game.
Have a renowned panel of experts to impart specialised training to our aspirants. Why not make it an international cricket centre for excellence and attract overseas candidates too ?
Former greats like Pataudi, Wadekar, Venkat, Pras, Chandra, Bedi, Sunny, Chetan Chauhan, Sardesai, Gaekwad, Vishy, Engineer, Kirmani, Mohinder, Vengsarkar, Patil, Kapil,Yashpal, Karsan, Srikant, Arunlal, Maninder, Sanjay Manjrekar, Ravi, Sidhu and others need to be requested to work on a blue print for such an enterprise. Those guys are talented, experienced and as good as any in the world of cricket.
It is a shame that no Indian umpire could live upto theinternational standard. BCCI is the richest body in the whole world, Indian players are the highest paid, India is the largest revenue earning test country yet we are not in position to contribute something in this area.

For shame! That not a single Indian is qualified to be among the ranks of the elite umpires, this, in the biggest land of cricket and where cricket is like a religion - and not to have quality empires? None? For shame indeed. Says a lot about professionalism and sports in India.
