Sachin Tendulkar ready for West Indies
by Sridhar Sundaram on May 09, 2006 08:30 AM

Sachin wakes up one fine morning and makes a statement that he is 'fully fit' and that he is ready for the WI tour. He did not say he is 'available' for the WI tour, it is very clear that in his mind he is an automatic choice. And most media reports declared that Sachin would be in the team for the WI tour.

This, to me, is bizarre. Mind you, Sachin has not done much of substance since his 35th century which was back in December last year. For him to assume that he is an automatic shoo-in is arrogant. The media slavishly playing along is scandalous and disgraceful.

Considering his recent lack of form and injuries, Sachin has to prove his fitness in a first class match before selection into the national team. Other players have this requirement. Why special rules only for Sachin?

Tendulkar's fitness for WI Tests only.
by P.S.Rao on May 08, 2006 11:07 AM

Tendulkar has announced to the world that he is ready to face WI team in the coming test matches. There is some similarity between Saurav Ganguly's case. Both have been away from cricket game for quite a long time for some reason or the other. So the Selectors have to tread carefully and see that both are judged by the same yardsticks. There should not be any show of favouritism which could bomerang on Indian Cricket.

Tendulkar Scared
by S Raman on May 08, 2006 11:01 AM

Tendulkar is scared that Ponting will break his centuries record shortly. Thats why, although he is 50% fit, he is going to West Indies tour to score some more centuries to make Pontings task difficult. As Ponting has three more years of Cricket left in him and he is scoring centuries on alternate Test matches, Tendulkars effort to keep Ponting at bay will be futile !!!!

I knew Sachin will be fit for thw WINDIES tour.Who won't like to play against one of the most fangless bowling attacks of the world, and that too on featherbed pitches. He can sense a century or two there to revive his flagging career. He also knows the media shall blow his performance there,if any, to Himalayan proportions, and he will be able to bag more endorsements.
Time has come to say adieu to him like Ganguly.

Report: "Sachin insists that he is fully fit". BCCI says Gloster has to decide. BCCI knows how desperate Sachin is to get back into the team. Sachin knows that if he is out of the team for a long time, his $40 million contract might be in jeopardy.

Does Sachin not have to prove his fitness by playing in a first class game first? Why special rules for only Sachin? After all, he missed the entire ODI series against Eng, and is again going to miss the ODI series against WI.

How can Sachin just walk back into the team?

Why the same yardstick has not been shown to ganguly- because he spoke , and tendulkar was diplomatic and did not antagonise the coach and selectors. Tendulkar has had more failures than ganguly in his last 8-10 matches much more than ganguly and his age is also against - what is the difference between him and ganguly- when tendulkar can be given a chance at his age , they could have tried ganguly in the last 2 one day against england- and the selectors say they are fair and they have reformed chapell or is it vice versa to remove ganguly- very unfair indeed!

Tendulkar for Tests
by peayen mani on May 07, 2006 09:37 PM

Let us FORGET the maestro batting legend; he had done his bit to the game, and earnt crores and crores; must now rest and allow others to get chance, instead of trying to seek a place again, when on and off, his condition makes it difficutl for him to play; ripe senior, give place to aspiring young stars, help them to build a strong time please is the appeal I make to Sachin; hope he listens; else, he may lose little respect he commands !!
