Bucknor should just shut up!!
by Sumeet on May 10, 2006 03:38 AM

Bucknor should just look at the decisions he has made himself, especially in the matches involving India. God knows what problem he has with India and Tendulkar in particular... Wonder how he's still in the elite panel even though you he's clearly biased in favor of teams playing against India. Shameless guy!

His comments on the media appear to be pure bullshit! How come no one else has noticed such a thing? Technology is exposing his poor decisions, so obviously he's trying to create doubts in the minds of the people to show that he's right.

Bucknor..you have to right to remain silient.
Anything spoken can be held against you.

Back in 2003 Ind - Aus in Austrailia, You gave justin Langer Not out of Ajit Agarkar bowling even tought he is plumb (LBW). If it is just one time then i would have thought, its a mistake.

But you did the same thing again, of Ajit Agarkar's consecutive over.

I agree! I think India could have won that match if Bucknor was not the umpire! If I remember properly, Langer got a pretty decent score in that innings...

You see, he just couldn't see India beat Aussies in their own backyard, when West Indies themselves were in deep sh**.

Highly Doubtful
by girish on May 08, 2006 09:53 PM

I highly doubt Bucknor's claim. Bucknor himself has given tons of wrong decisions. The numbers might suggest that Bucknor is very good and favorite. But one should alos think about the number of umpires in elite pannel. In all this is all baseless and nonsense.

Ball tampering by TV technology
by Rajesh on May 08, 2006 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

This brings to mind the (in)famous incident when five Indian players were penalties for various acts of comission and omission (Ganguly) by the British third referee in a match versus South Africa that created a major uproar in India and almost created a diplomatic embarassment. Tendulkar was accused of 'ball tampering' when seen in "SLOMO' - the technology used for ultra slow motion replays - the same footage was never shown in real time, which would have been just a blur or worse - it would not have been the great maestro himself!

Who is going to be the "Fifth Umpire" for the media?

The point Mr Ramkumar misses in his reply is that Steve Bucknor always appeared to oppose technology as was evident from the time that he first refused to use it and wrongly declared Sachin Tendulkar out. Bucknor's 'mistakes' are getting to be too many in comparison with some of the younger umpires. You are right in stating that it is not easy to stand for 7 hours. All the more reason to use the help of technology when you're tired. Some heart and brain surgeries take over 8 hours. Will you accept a patient's death as easily just because the doctor had to 'stand'? When technology is available, let them use it!

It is absolutely true that Bucknor is over the Hill and is only making ground for his future mistakes. He is now become one of the worst umpires in world so to save himself he is mudslinging thats all. ICC should make him retire and not give him any further test match or odi to stand in.

Mr.Ramkumar,
However much you would like to defend this umpire;it is a known fact that Steve Bucknor made some horrendous decisions and the consequences were also well-known.

Simply put, just like his umpiring decisions, his allegations are also tough to believe.........!!!!

Absolute nonsense!Steve Bucknor is one of the most useless Umpires, responsible for innumerable wrong/bad/incorrect decisions, ruining the very spirit of Cricket.I wonder why Steve Bucknor has not been sacked for incompetence, long back. The reason is not far to seek. In these days of reservations, probably even in the ICC there must be some provision that for so many Whites or Browns, there should be so many Blacks and Merit/ Competence can be overlooked; as long as the ICC is not accused of Racism.Or else the West Indies Cricket Board must be so powerful that the ICC dare not annoy them by dropping Steve Buknor from their panel. What ever it is, Cricket is the poorer with people like Steve Buknor around.

Bucknor's comments
by Budge on May 08, 2006 12:53 AM  | Hide replies

I think it is high time Steve Bucknor retired from umpiring. Either his eyeseight is fading or his judgment is getting poor. He may be holding the record for the most number of matches umpired but he's got to a stage where technology shows him to be what he has now become: a poor umpire. It's hardly surprising that he cribs about technology. In any case he never was one that favored it. Right from the time he first refused to use the third umpire and declared Sachin Tendulkar run out when TV replayes actually showed him to be not out it is evident that he is an umpire who thinks he is infallible. Time he retired!

Mr Budge,
Guess you do not know what it means for an umpire to stand for 7 hours at a stretch. He is a human being and is bound to make mistakes. Everybody does. You have made as well by pointing out something that you are not capable of. Suggest if you could reserve comments about Bucknor who need not prove anything to you.
He has seen it happening and he has commented on it. So lets wait for ICC.

Its true ....
by niaz ahmed on May 08, 2006 12:46 AM

I completely agree with Steve Bucknor. I have observed so many a times that the tv crew favors a particular nation or a player.

All the matches played in Sharjah favor the pakistan players. not only the tv crew but also the commentators. they shower good words on the pakis.even the trivial instance of fielding in glorified but the opponent teams achievements or efforts are neglected and not highlighted.

Closer home our own sachin tendulkar is the beneficiary. Tv crew and commentators like Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar shower praises on sachin. Even a simple stroke is glorified. best moments are captured and repeated time and again. if he gets out, its made out to be a valiant effort.

No amount of failure on his part. he still has to be part of the team...I am just waiting when Sachin will be gangulied...

Commercial and fanatic interests are behind the degeneration of cricket...
