technology has reached the jet age..unfortunately hariharan's eyes have not been upto speed..neither have his brains.. The umpire has the right to reverse his decision until the time that the batsman has left the playing premises...
we talk of players needing to know the rules better, somebody needs to tell the same thing to the umpires
lets throw out the two idiots aka hariharan & shivaram. those two dont deserve to be the even the fourth umpires, forget third umpire. they wont be able to decide which teams are playing today. forget abt the decisions. whether those decisions will affect india chances in the series or not will be shown on the fifth day tomorrow.
Hats off to dhoni for respecting the Umpires decision. But I would rather think that Dhoni should see the Replay atleast once. The situation should have been really different if how was not given out Wrongly
I would also suggest that the Umpires should also be Punished( fined) when they make blunder mistakes like this. when the Players are fined for their wrong deeds why not umpires?
The lights switch on the screens MUST be under the direct control of 3 rd Umpire to avoid such lapses.
If 3rd umpire gvs wrong decisions Match referee should come in and award 25 runs to the wronged team before the start of 2 overs after the incident.::::: Leo::
Let the match refree go to the hell. Its ridiculous to ban the third umpire replays to be shown on the screen. The technology is available and why cant use it. There is no pressure on third umpire unlike the onfield umpires. I believe its high time the rules of the game were taught to the third umpires as well. Can the ICC look in to it?
Don't think there is any other better way of putting one's own foot in his mouth than the way by which Hariharan did by giving Dhoni out?....Irrespective of the complexity of the situations, and the pressures of allegations of favouring the home side, Hariharan failed miserably as an umpire today the very moment he gave Dhoni out..He needs to go back to his rule books which mentions clearly that unless the bails are dislodged completely from the stumps before the batsman gets in, the batsman cannot be given out, and when in doubt you should always give the benefit of the doubt to the batsman . It was very obvious that the bails were not dislodged before Dhoni could get in.if it was an English or an Australian palyer on the crease running for his life to get to the crease, and if there was a third umpire wo also happend to be English /Australian, would he have judged the batsman out, only because he fears that other countries might accuse them of partiality.?.Why do we Indians fall prey to our own created self imposed complications? I think the Indian camp mustformally lodge a complaint against this decision, although the decision cannot be reversed..!!!
Dhoni was clearly not out except for umpires like Hariharan. Sometimes the umpires create so much blunder that it remains a mystery forever. Unless BOTH the bails are off the stumps, the batsman cannot be given run-out or stumped. The ICC keep strengthening the rules for the players. They should outline special rules for the umpires of the match as well. Before, whenever an Asian country played cricket, they decided to have neutral umpires. Now, the problem is mounting. Whether the umpires are neutral or not, they are not sure what decision to make(especially if you see TV replays 6-7 times).
No. Even the provision for benefit of doubt to the batsman was not needed in this case. There as an hairline gap between the ball and the stump when Dhoni's bat touched the line, leave alone falling of the bail. To be honest I have not touched the ball and bat in my lifetime.
