World REcord
by BHARAT SATISH TALWAR on Mar 13, 2006 11:04 AM

This is Cricket and only Cricket can do wonders as such. Congrats to both the teams for creating world record. Special mention to Gibbs to making South Africa win in such a thrilling match. Looking forward to see this record also broken in the coming time although I do not think I shall be able to see that record during my life time.

SZ Hit World Record to Beat Australia
by Dr YNI Anand on Mar 13, 2006 10:24 AM

Words fail me to describe the innings played by South Africa. Not very long ago we thought that hitting more than 300 runs in an innings is by itself great achievement and successfully chasing anything above that was even greater. In that context, Sri Lanka's 398 albeit against a weak Kenya was a landmark achievement.

Not any more!! For any team to score 400 + is great and nerve racking to the other team. Ricky Ponting played a true captain's innings. He showed his grate(r)ness by declaring that Gibbs deserved the Man of the Match award despite being declared jointly for the award.

Unfazed by the record innings played by Australia, SA answered their rivals in a true hero's fashion to win the match. It was a treat to watch this match, by far the best ever watched by most of us in the history of One Day cricket eclipsing the match between India and Pakistan where 693 runs were scored in all.

Cricket beats Hitchcock thriller
by Kannan on Mar 13, 2006 10:20 AM

There has been a lot of close cricket encounters and great games played in the past. The Jo'burg game between the Proteas and the Aussies has brought in a new life to the cricket world.
Not a single cricket fan would have given the Africans a slim chance of reaching close to the victory target of 435.South Africans have written a golden chapter in cricket and am sure the game is going to bring out more thrillers amongst the other cricket playing nations as well.
Sure, the game of cricket has beaten an Alfred Hitchcock suspense.

extra-ordinary feat

When two Titans of Mordern Cricket clash new records are bound to be created.

In todays World Cricket Scenario the teams with the best mental abilities are bound to rule.

Both Australia & South Africa are teams to reckon with but South Africa had the edge since they were playing on Home soil & had the local crowd behind them with helped tirn the tables in their favour.

Both teams have bundle of skilled players but South Africa after this emphatic win have proved to the world that they are strong contenders to lift the World Cup in 2007.

Aussi-SA match

Amazing and unparalleled match. The trigger was the spat between he captains after the fourth ODI. I thought Ponting would have the last laugh, but that was not to be.

While bowlers on both sides were lavish in giving runs, Australia, I thought did better, with at least one bowler giving a century of runs.

Australia's pathetic bowling and fielding showed how they depended heavily on two bowers, McGrath and Warne, in their quest for success. Minus these two, they are like any other team.

what a match!!!!!!
by DSRAO on Mar 13, 2006 05:47 AM

Glad to have seen the last part of this great chase live & be a witness to a historic & once in a lifetime match. Full marks to SA for the greatest ever chase , more so for a team reputed to be chokers. The Aussies will have to do some serious thinking as to why they couldn't defend a world record toatl. A great match indeed!!!!
