V.P.Singh and his Bofors' reference
by swaminathan on Jun 29, 2006 12:23 PM

28th june

This refers to the news item on the announcement of Mr.V.P.Singh who has mentioned that Bofors' was ready to disclose names of beneficiaries of the scam.
He came to power pledging to bring the facts within 100 days.(as per his calandar!); he ruled the country as PM with all proper powers vested. Why did he not take action and arrest the accused? Like all PMs, Presidents and Vice President, he has also written a book (routine passtime) revealing happenings over which he had control, authority and a sworn constitutional responsibility accountable to the public of India.
Funny all these people of prominence get away with award ceremonies but not tried for treason/derelection of duty by highest court.

It is sad to note the demise of Kunderan who inspired many to sit by the radio back in 60s to knock the guts out of speedsters of westindies or any country.
Due to the bias towards south zone players, he did not get due share to represent country; we saw likes of Daljit singh, Inderjit Singh being selected regularly.
however, the sad aspect of the news report that stated Kunderan wanted to know if BCCI is doing anything for former cricketers and their welbeing.
BCCI and those who work for it have a Five Star living out of contributions of the indian public and advertisement and other revenues but have largely ignored in total, all former cricketers who have given their youth, career in exchange for the love of cricket and for playing for the country, mostly going out of pocket.
It is time BCCI and likes of Sharad Pawar and the regional associations take a census of former cricketers who may be fighting for two meals, and provide a monthly pension sufficient for survival, medical expenses and educational support of dependents.

We condole Budhi Kunderan's demise
by k,mallick on Jun 24, 2006 07:31 AM

Yes, Budhi Kunderan was a dare devil batsman, opening and keeping wicket for India in sixties. However, he did not get the share in Indian cricket that he so richly deserved. We always felt sorry for this talented cricketer. May his soul rest in peace.

In our student days we were very fond of Budhi for his audacious hitting skills & quick scoring. He was also a great keeper. He is the original super keeper batsman for india.Among his successors Engineer was also in his mould & so is Dhoni.
Thanks Budhi for all the pleasure you gave us. May his soul rest in peace.

BUDHI KUNDERAN
by Garudachar from USA on Jun 23, 2006 05:33 PM

I saw Kunderan's batting. He used to bat aggresively Gilchrist, deadly fast bowler from West Indies. He used to come out of crease and lift him for fours. He used to bat the same way to Davidson, Australian Fast bowler who used to to run to the vrease like a war horse. It was a treat to watch Budhi Kunderan along with another flambouyant terrific batsman Subramanyam of Karnatakwa playing these fast heroes.

GOD REST HIS SOUL IN ETERNAL PEACE.

Garudachar.
