Crap..
by pranav on Jun 09, 2006 03:00 PM

If he (Lara) was sportive enough, he would not have snatched the ball off Rauf's hands. Instead he should have let Dhoni bat saying "No Problem, we will take you out again". Our dear friend Lara here forgot the simplest of all proverbs "Practice before you preach".

Think about it people !
by Ritwik on Jun 08, 2006 09:20 PM

First of all, it's up to the umpires to decide. If the umpires are unable to figure out whether it was a clean catch or not, then according to the rules, the decision goes in favour of the batsman. It's laughable for anyone to say that the batsman should have taken the opposition's word and should have walked to the pavilion. These are simple basic rules which everything knows, it really surprises me that an experiances player like Lara is saying something which does not make sense to anyone.

Lara is not Asian, so...
by SA Nair on Jun 08, 2006 08:44 PM

This is atrocious! Imagine a similar situation involving an asian team captain like Dravid or Inzamam! The heavens would've come crashing down and he would have had to sit out for at least two matches! Imagine the audacity of Lara (he maybe the best batsman in the world, but he can't be above the game!) when he says that if the umpire can't arrive at a decision the players have to resolve the issue! That's surely not about cricketing spirit - and just for appealing Sehwag has been fined in the same match! Ridiculous!

All lies
by Rohit on Jun 08, 2006 02:52 PM

This is nothing but a cover up for what he did.
He was frustrated and he got a oppurtunity which he did not let pass. He cheated, that is true. Everything else is a reason not to get the wrath of the ICC. Don't worry Lara. We dont think they have the guts to take action against you.

Excuses all the way........!
by SRC on Jun 08, 2006 05:20 AM

...........could have been the other way round as well! Lara could have asked Dhoni to stay back and tell his own team-mate to accept that he had stepped on the boundary line while taking the catch......! You are not necessarily correct just because you are the highest run-maker in the world. So, this bit of 'upholding the spirit of the game' put forth as an excuse by Lara is not really acceptable and cannot be justified. I'm sure this arrogant attitude needs addressing.........

lara's justification cannot be accepted.sprit of game died on the part of lara.
if impires could not reach to a dicision then he should not try to be impire.
he must act only as player as doni did.

Dhone drama angered Lara
by Rajaram Alva on Jun 07, 2006 03:02 PM

It is Ok since the none would have imagined how the decision would effect the outcome of the match. What if the ball was the last one and there was 6 runs for a dramatic win ?. would Dhoni have walked off on Lara's order?. The country would have blasted him if he did that.

Match referee - is there someone like that?
by krishna kumar on Jun 07, 2006 02:54 PM

It's a ridiculous excuse from Mr. Lara. Since you are contending players should come on a resolution.. Why dont that resolution be for Dhoni to stay back and keep batting... Shame... One thing i cant understand, why Indians always get the stick and anybody who plays against india goes scott free

Lara the Great

This is what makes Lara a great cricker not just a great batsman! Here is a player who respects the game irrespective of whether he is on the winning or losing side. Keep it up and be an example to other young players.

Useless
by Simon on Jun 07, 2006 02:37 PM

These are useless comments by the west indies master. He is talking about sportmanship. If that were the case he should have asked Dhoni to bat on and not ask him to walk away. Who was he anyway to ask Dhoni to go. Lara has acted in a manner that will bring his own and his team's fame down.
