''All our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with reason. There is nothing higher than reason for going out to open again with Sehwag''.

Aaaaarrrghhh .. that a nice way to vouch for Mr Ganguly .. The "reason" that you talk about is nothing more than the humility of Dravid . Its not about "reason" but about being-left-with-no-choice . How else would you justify playing only one out of your three openers for the tour. And how can the Ten Sports viewers not recall the verbal spat between Ganguly,Dravid and Chappell before the start of the match.
On what grounds is it a logical choice to include Ganguly over Jaffer or Gambhir.
Ganguly was picked in place of an opener and with absolutely no disrespect to you Mr Bedi , would you as a Captain not ask Ganguly to open then. Or would you instead take your best batsman and put him in the firing line . If ganguly is so worried about his ribs then he would do better if he carries the drinks.
A regular opener should be brought in and Dravid should be restored at number 3. Thats the position Mr Dependable loves, relishes and prospers at.

Hi Friend...

I agree with your views that if Ganguly was picked as an opener, he should open. But the point is...why is he picked as an opener. I totally think that Ganguly still deserves a place in the side as a middle order batsman. If you go by career stats, he is way better than Rahul Dravid. If you go by current form, he is definitely better than Sachin Tendulkar who scores a century in one "insignificant" match and then goes for 10 innings under a score of 20. When was the last time Tendulkar won a match for India.

If Ganguly is kicked out on basis of form, so should Tendulkar.

Other than that, I am sure no one here believes that as-a-batsman, either Gambhir Or Jaffer have even 10% of Ganguly's ability.

So can we just get over the controversy and kick out both Gambhir and Jaffer? We've had this "youngsters" pretence for too long. These people just are not worth their dime. None of them have the ability to score (and score fast) against quality opposition. So lets wait until we have genuinely talented youngsters (like Kevin Peitersen) who can come in and dominate. Until then, lets spare everyone the pretence od picking someone just coz he's young.I'm 22,pick me!
