Dhoni vs Gilchrist???
by Anand on Feb 28, 2006 04:57 PM  | Hide replies

The stats about Dhoni read good, but to me, he is no way to be compared to Gilchrist. Against South Africa (a quality pace attack) Dhoni coulndt find his feet at all, that too in Indian pitches. I dont think Dhoni's technique is good enough to make him survive in Australian or South African pitches against quality seam bowling. But yes, he is probably the best wicket keeper batsman India seems to have produced. But he will always remain far far behind Gilchrist who has taken bowlers like Wasim Akram, Shaun Pollock and others to the cleaners in bouncy and seaming pitches. Also Dhoni has been only one year old in the international arena whil Gilchrist has been doing this for almost 10 years now and never seems to be ageing or tiring of smashing bowlers out of the park. Also comparing Dhoni with Bevan in terms of finishing the match is also foolish. Bevan has averaged 56 or so after 100s of mathches and again in all pitches against all bowling attacks. One tour to Australia and South Africa against quality pace bowling will be the true test of abilities and if Dhoni does these performances there consistently, then surely he will be up there among the best. Till then NO CHANCE.

Dhoni

i would agree with srinath. After micheal bevan, to me dhoni is the best finisher. The fact that he has scored it twice against pakistan speaks for himself and meke the crowd react this way. He has long way to go and all the best for him.

BEST ODI AVERAGE
by G.SIVAKUMAR on Feb 20, 2006 03:31 PM

CONGRATS TO DHONI.
Going thro the stats I come to know only the TRUE GREATS have the best average ( 40+)

Zaheer Abbas,Sachin,Viv Richards and Greenidge are those.( Runs/Innings & not Runs/Out)

Lets wait & see if Dhoni joins the elite list.

Hi,

I am wondering on why MICHAEL HUSSEY'S one day statistics did not figure in that list.As far as I know,he had played around 30+ plus matches & the average was well over 90.
