Inzy dismissal
by Indrajit Das on Feb 11, 2006 08:00 AM  | Hide replies

I dont want to comment on the fact whether Inzy was run out or not because Ive read the clause of this rule several times even though, Inzamam, with being his caliber of a player and captain, surprisingly openly, seemed to impress upon the people the fact that he was a victim of unsportsmanlike behaviour and bizarre cricket rules! When somebody argues that Inzamam was not attempting a run, even though he was way out of his crease, I just cant stop myself asking him a simple question that, then, what was he doing there, just strolling for an afternoon walk? Can a batsman, without attempting a run go outside of his crease so far away? When I had been playing cricket at University and club level, my coaches always used to advice me of taking a couple of forward steps after playing a shot which has placed the ball somewhere around the edge of the thirty yard circle, just in case, a single becomes a possibility. Hence, I refuse to believe that Inzamam has not attempted a run. Moreover, in my opinion, he, willfully, obstructed the ball from breaking the stumps as he knew, quite clearly, where he was standing at that moment. Lastly, he made no attempt, being lazy or else, at all to reach back to his crease which he should at any circumstances.

Dear friend,
I cannot but feel compelled to observe that probably the player was in the same "Hamlet's--"To be, or not to be" soliloquy"--predicament as you yourself seem to be in your comment whether to make or not make a judgment about the dismissal, but actually ending up with one agaist him, that in essence reflects the majority opinion after all !!

The cricket community need not learn about sports-mans spirit from Pakistan!
Where were their spirit when Shoaib blocked Sachin and got him run-out? Those who remember the Chennai test of 1999 will recall a even more outrageous claim. It was Ganguly who hit the ball directly to the silly point fielder's leg, after which the ball bounced on the ground and went to Moin Khan. Moin Khan, as a typical Pakistani, made a gesture as if he "Caught" the ball and all his cohorts join in. The confused umpire ruled Ganguly out! Was the term "Sportsman's Spirit" missing from the Pak dictionary then?
We are not surprised by Inzamum-ul-Haq's ignonimity in the laws of the game. People of his country have much more 'important' things to do in Jehadi camps and Madrassas than studying the laws of a "English" game.

Inzy: a Cheat
by Ronak on Feb 10, 2006 07:04 AM

I completely agree with Dravid. I think Inzamam KNows how to hit ball thats what he had been thought. He doesnt know any rule.. and this is not first time he has done this..Ia match against S.A at sharjah. when mark boucher throwed the call to the stump Inzy knew he was in trouble he tried to block the ball by bat..Pollock Told the umpire but no action was taken..I dont know if any of you remember this...This is not the first time he has done this...

Inzi'ss unsportsmanship
by S Lal on Feb 10, 2006 02:33 AM

There was no visible action of Inzi in the field that can prove he was only trying to protect himself against the quick throw. In fact, he batted the ball to avoid it hitting the wicket. It is his unsportsmanship as a captain to cry foul by finding fault with Dravid.

It is very said thing indeed that playing at such great level, still one is thinking like Inzy.
When Steve Waugh was given out for \"Handling The Ball\" no such issue was arise unlike now. After all the it all depends on once thinking.

Looks like suresh raina knows the rules better than inzi. In the presentation cermony, Inzi made a fool fof himself by saying that he cant understand the rules.shame on inzamam.

Dravid defends Inzys appeal

Dravid would surely defend the appeal. He has no way out other than support it. This is the learning what he gets from his coach who had tainted the spirit of the game by asking his brother to bowl under arm. Dravid is in his coaches shoes and goes by his foot steps.

i think moin khan should go to the kitchen. he is trying to create panic in the indian camp despite the fact that pakistanis are sitting pretty. that proves that all said and done, they are feeling the jitters. inzy should learn that cricket is not a donkey game where a batsman just has to hit a ball. he should mature while giving statements also. i also feel pakistanis have behaved as poor hosts and should never invite anyone except the US army to their country.

Game spirit

Dravid is correct, there is nothing wrong with the appeal. And Inzy's anger over this seems unjustified. When was he when Shoaib was bowling beamer? He needs to 1st induce some game spirit in his team.

Appeal against Inzamam

Captain Dravid and the team were perfectly justified in appealing against Inzamam
