Bedi - the symbol of negativism
by Mahesh k Jagga on Feb 07, 2006 01:57 PM

I sometimes wonder how can anyone be so negative and cynical in his thinking and approach.

Yesterday, when BSB was berating Sehwag in a TV show, Zaheer Abbas tried to defend Sehwag saying," He plays like this and he is loved due to his playing style. You cannot fault him if this style costs him his wicket early a few times as same style gets India the quick starts so desirable in one day cricket."

Bedi, the speciman, tried to shut him up by saying," Begani Shaadi mein Abdullah Diwana"

His cynicism knows no bounds. He has sympathy for Inzamam who lost his wicket due to his own mistake whereas none for Tendulkar who was given out due to Umpire's mistake.

It has become fashionable to berate the players by media and Bedi seems to be revelling in the shit flowing around.

He would do well to remember 1978 when he bowled the penultimate over with Pakistan needing some 22 runs. He conceded 18 runs and we lost the match.

May be since he did not get a chance to redeem himself after that, he feels that painting everyone black will make him feel secure.

injustice to contractual payment
by r.devarajan on Feb 07, 2006 01:52 PM

there is no second opinion that our players are paid contractual payment which no cricket board in the world pays so heavily. But many a times players do unjustice disregarding the fact they it is hard earned money of cricket lovers and sponsors which ultimately pass on the burdon to the common man. BCCI should fix up a minimum result from each catagory of player failing which a cut in the payment should be enforced.

The cricketers are playing for thier country and should give their best but they do not they only run for personal score here Sachin was at risk of losing his endorsements so he scored a 100. I put the blame on the media and the government the media who takes them to so high a pedestal and the government for allowing them to work in ads and mint money and ego. If they have loads of money from advertisements they why should they work hard why are the jawans not getting due recognization. Their brand business should be completely stopped. The team is not fit too always the other side even physically are taller and well built than our shorter and slimmer team and thats why dont have the stamina to play they are minting money and should be made to slog after all it is the reputation of our country which is at stake

It's quite true and disheartening to say that the senior players have lost their charm and fame with the game. But one cannot blame the players alone where they are exposed to some unprofessional selection panel who are truly unethical in their approach on selection issues.More than cricket its becoming individual intrest and co partnered intrest in selection process. Well the chief selector can jump behind his stumps and not before cricket and its charm.

Rightly said. Sachin's hundred is only for not losing his endorsements and to get to 14000 run milestone. Moreover he was clean bowled through his gates but luck was on his side as umpire gave noball. Not only sachin, everyone in the team is interested only in making money and not to save the country's face.

Bishan's ignorance
by Avadhoot on Feb 07, 2006 01:28 PM  | Hide replies

I just read the first paragraph and decided to comment. Bob woolmer coached South African team much later then the match Bedi speaks of. The match occured in 1992. Bob woolmer joined the team much later. Bedi is known to make lot of foolish comments, but he should have atleast checked out the facts before posting it.

yep, bob woolmer was offered the coaching job of south africa after mike procter was sacked in 1994, a good 2 years after the incident occured on march 22nd 1992, when SA were playing England. The batsmen at the crease were Dave Richardson and Brian McMillan. So bedi, if I can take some time to check these facts, I think it is incumbent upon you to do the same, especially since you have contributed to writing this column.

Think atleast a little before giving advice. Look into the mirror with your advice. Bedi never said Woolmer was the coach. He was in fact part of the SA team as a player.

i remember how this man was so disliked when he was the coach on that infamous england tour. he was the one who wanted to throw all out player in the sea. and now he is here talking ant how unfortunate the inzi decision was.

my question is : wasnt it a tad unfortunate for india to loose in this fashion.

Mr. Bedi pls try to say good abt team india. we loath the aussies and the paki, but at least they support their team even when the chips are down.

HOW DO WE LOOK AT INZY NOW
by JOE PAUL on Feb 07, 2006 01:18 PM

I think Inzy is the gentleman of the gentlemen. He lets performance talk in a game where eye ball breathes fire and everybody is talking of killer instinct. Here is a smart operator who just talks soft and acts tough. We need the Indians to learn a few lessons as ultimately results are what matter.Who cares about the process as you hardly get to see them.Secondly does Bob have a role to play in all this and if yes, Bob you are a slick operator.keep the good job going.I do hope Chappel does learn a few trick from you.
Great Inzy even you are a tough Pakistani, keep the Asian flag flying. We need competitors like you.
