A treat to watch cricketer
by Alpesh on Dec 08, 2006 11:25 AM

One Cricketer who used to play orthodox test cricket during the times when other Aussies used to score more that 4-5 runs per over .. n still be a big success. His innings in India were gr8. Wishing him all the best for future.

this is the great thing about sportsmen abroad in cricket , they retire as they know they cant really give 100 % all the time. he was out of form and under pressure but too classy to be out of touch. Very stylish and reminds me as someone who played with full spirit like mark waugh . HATS off mite

This is why Australian cricket is so great!
by Mohan on Dec 08, 2006 10:59 AM

So tough is Australian cricket that a player of Damien Martyn's caliber has announced his retirement from International cricket in the midst of the Ashes series and the World cup in store. Its sad but thats how aussies live by - work the toughest way, party hard and retire quickly. Competition, character and discipline in Australian cricket is so high that even a top-class retires suddenly, the bench strength is up and ready in no time. I think Indian cricketers should also learn from the Aussies. Even though I'm a great fan of Sachin and Ganguly, I personally think they should retire before they falter too many times.

Its not only cricket, look at Ian Thorpe; his retirement was a shocker to all.

Timing ones Retirement
by Bala on Dec 08, 2006 10:54 AM

One should take the cue from Damien Martin's retirement. Its better to quit before you are thrown out. In Australia cricket is played the hard way today in the middle of an Ashes series Hayden and Hussey who are part of the national playing eleven are playing for their local first class teams queensland and victoria repectively. Can one imagine that in India. A player out from injury for 6 months and he is directly selected to play for the country. None of the national players play for their states. It would be interesting to know how many 1st class mathes our top 11 have played in the last 1 year.

A good example set by a great team
by varun on Dec 08, 2006 10:43 AM

THis just goes to show you the the Australian tem members play for the country and not themselves. Martyn has set an example for many of our players who are continously failing and making excuses about the poor show.Martyn has admitted it is his own failure and has rightly stepped down to accomodate a more deserving player into the world beating team
