Dravid is growing in stature
by Vinayak on Aug 28, 2006 11:17 PM

I fully endorse Ravi Shastri that Dravid is improving everyday.... Dravid demonstrates what he preaches and commands respect among his team members.
Hope he inspires the Indian team to bring back the World Cup in 2007...

No sign of Steve Waugh in Dravid
by James on Aug 28, 2006 10:14 PM

Can one believe that there are signs of leadership quality of Waugh in Dravid? What Shastri said is total bullshit. Even Sehwag has better leadership quality than Dravid. Shastri's comment in this regard can't be justified.

Yes,Ravi shastry is right. After all shastry is one of the best commentator in the world.I think, dravid will achieve more than steve waugh as a batsman but not as a leader.Because dravid doesn't have australian team with him.But sadly it is India.India,I think one of the most unpredictable team like Pakisthan unlike Australia. As for as shastry's comment with respect to India's chances of winning world cup is outside chance.

Ganguly will return
by Pradeep on Aug 28, 2006 08:09 PM

Dravid is a great player.... Agree.... If Ganguly debuts along with Sachin.... Sachin is no more... The difference between Dada and Chota is meagre of 3-4k runs......

Has Shastri gone nuts...
by Suvajit on Aug 28, 2006 07:16 PM  | Hide replies

I honestly believe that Shastri has gone out of mind... How can he even compare Steve Waugh and Dravid... I have always believe that Shastri is an over-rated Indian Personality, as a cricketer he was just average and has been lucky to be thre for so many years, so it is better on his part to keep his mouth shut on Ganguly.

I believe Dravid can be compared with Ricky Ponting, who is guiding a team built by the former captain, and so far has done a reasonable job...

Do I see a regional bias in your comments? Obviously you must be from Westbengal. Grow up man...grow up and come out of the shell. Look in totality what the team requires and who fits in.
No doubt that ganguly had a been a good player and had be a fabulous captain. But that is past...lets move forward and look at the present. Does ganguly fit into the present team..the answer is NO.
Lets concentrate on Team India..not on regions

Dravid & Ganguly
by Shekhar on Aug 28, 2006 06:23 PM  | Hide replies

After reading Mr. Shastri's column, I fully agree Dravid indeed has matured as a captain and takes his responsibility well. Full marks to Mr. Shastri on comparing him to the great Steve Waugh. I cannot agree more.

What irks me is his second conclusion regarding Saurav Ganguly. He says "To be in the best 15, fitness and current form is crucial. On current form, he doesn't pick himself." Okay I agree with this statement that his recent form has not been impressive. But what our former players and so called cricket pundits forget when they write columns that the one of the main reason in Ganguly's going out is Chappell and Kiran More. They mentioned his form is poor and threw him out. So what about Tendulkar before his Lashings venture in England? Sehwag? I have not seen any noticable performance from that guy too. If recent form has been the criteria of the coach these two guys must have been out of the team long back. You apply one rule to one guy and break it for the other? Ganguly's form and recent failures have been because of low confidence and the coach and chairman of the selectors have a part in this. But Ganguly will bounce back.

You have missed out the most important thing. Ganguly is not given anymore chances because he was already given 3 years time to prove himself, but he failed. For the last 3 years before his sacking, Ganguly averaged below 30 for 1 year and below 20 for 2 years. That's the reason he is not given more chances. Other players like Tendulkar and Sehwag are having bad phases, but not for the last 3 years. Tendulkar have been having his bad phase for some months now. But Ganguly was failing for 3 damn years before his sacking. also, Tendulkar is playing well in the ODI games. He played brilliantly in the series against Sri Lanka.

you are right in many places. We should not forget one more fact that if ganguly is in the team, he will make a split in th team members. Attitude is also one of the factor that they have considered. Does he has that? Now you know the answer. I agree with your statement on Shewag but not on Tendulkar. Tendulkar to be needed in the team to boost the morale of the team and team sprit. But a lesson need to be taught Shewag. He think that he is the master blaster. Actually not and technically very bad. He throws the bat which anyone can do it. Do you think afridi is technical batsan. No way at all. but he has the fame just like Shewag.

I think, shastri as a commentator says anything like bullshit what he feel. shashti has been always a detractor of saurav ganuly like bedi, ajay menon. These people are very liar and biased. people should ignore these people, they only comment to attract people to get more fame.

that's the reason why you guys are not growing. Assume that you got 98% on ur Graduation. Top class MNC has selected you. you performed well first year. Well and good. in the next few year you could not deliver anything. Do you think that they will keep you just because u got 98% and performed well for an year. THINK ABOUT IT. CHANGE UR ATTITUDE. GROW WITH US. ALL THE BEST

Madhav,
You are a typical 'opposition member'! You are criticizing what Shastri said just for the heck of it! The whole world is convinced by now that Mr. Ganguly is a spent force (No opposition had been considering him a force to reckon with for the last three years, anyway!) and what we don't understand is the motive behind non-cricketing morons like you still routing for him! Grow up and start thinking of contributing to the overall interest of the nation! Ganguly was a good player once upon a time - let it be that way! Stop clinging to past heroes!
Best Wishes
-Nair

The only shitty thing right now is what you are talking about. Saurav Ganguly is a perfect man to lead Afghanistan Women's Cricket Team.
