"I knew that Wright had affection for Sehwag and had reacted to his getting out like a guru reacting to the failure of a disciple."

Thank you shukla, for correctly intrepreting Wright's action(s), unlike many former cricketers.

Wright's apology
by Venkat Su bramaniam T.R. on Aug 15, 2006 10:55 PM

There is nothing wrong in the reaction of John Wright. Every manager who is fully involved in the team would have reacted in such situation. As Manager, Wright has every right to tell their play to their potential. The Players are representatives of the Country and they should be responsible for the lapses occur on their part. Somebody should be there to scold the players so that they should play responsibly. There is no question of apology from Joh Wright. I support for Wright\'s behaviour. Otherwise also, it is seen that Indian Players on most occasion throw away their wicket once they become permanent in the Team. This tendency of the players should be stopped at some point of time. Professional managers are the needs of the day. John Wright did the right thing. I fully support his action.

my view to this is that the coach was right, indeed a player must understand when a coach has told him something he should atleast try to follow it and give it a try his best , as shewag gets out the same way all the time.

This is sick !!

It dosen't matter how good and affectionate the coach is, he is supposed to be professional. What Wright did was just plain unprofessional, and no matter how good of a coach he was or how much service he gave to the Indian team, Wright made a mistake. What if Sehwag would have reacted and went physical with Wright !! Would Wright have gone over it then ? It was just plain sick for Wright to do it. At the most, he could have spoken to Sehwag angrily, but he under any circumstances can't go physical with any player. This is just plain ridiculous and vomit-indulging !!

Wright Blasting Not-So-Right(Sehwag)

Former coach John Wright had done the right thing in scruffing up Verander Shewag in 2002.He'd just released his pent-up emotions against Veeru who was(& still is) in the habit of throwing away his wicket in the name of "natural play".It was a simple case a guru venting his anger against an indisciplined sishya. What else?
Besides,Ganguly was totally wrong in demanding an apology from the coach. His holier-than-thou attitude was misplaced.John Wright was a coach not some ordinary clerk that he'd to render an apology. That'd indeed have punctured his position & authority & responsibility as a coach.

Nothing to be sensationalized. Such things happen all the time in every walk of life. It is heartening though to know that everyone behaved in a mature manner after the incident and the situation was resolved amicably, unlike the Ganguly-Chappell incident.

Ganguly sought Wright's apology

As I've always said, Indian 'men' are not men at all - just mommy's little boys - a bunch of docile, indolent cry-baby girlie-men. After his very stupid batting performance, Sehwag, being a professional, should have understood coach Wright's indignation. Instead, he starts crying like the little boy that he is. If you folks want to see real coaches in action, try coming to a Baseball game where coaches chew out their players in full view of the public. Ditto for Basketball and even worse in Football. So stop being such petulent, feeling-sorry-for-myself, I-want-my-mommy cry-babies - GROW UP! Also, Wright should have apologized there and then, in front of the entire team!
