Case in the point
by S. Anand on Apr 17, 2006 12:37 PM

I had already mentioned this point at the end of the 4th one dayer. I am re-instating the same now. Robin Uthappa's innings has one again shown how guys like Sehwag and Kaif have been given an undeservingly extended run. I agree that one innings does not make Uthappa a better player than Sehwag or Kaif, but the point is that several young players are willing to take more responsibility while the senior players seem to take their place for granted. Well it might soon happen that once these younger players including Dhoni become main stays they may take their place for granted later. The key thing that allows this is the selectors' policies. It will not be surprising at all if now guys like Raina, Uthappa, Sreesanth are dropped to accomodate Sehwag, Tendulkar, Kaif and Agarkar. They played Ganguly too often when he was failing and later he was unduly disgraced. Same thing will happen to other players. Why cant the Indian selectors be professional like the Aussies and give a clear message to players that only performers will find a place in the team and no one can be in the team because he is just popular among the masses or because he played a miraculous innings 5 years ago?
