Dravid's Honesty
by C Vishwanathan on Apr 11, 2006 10:44 AM

Mr Gooch,

Your article on Dravid is much warranted though it seems to be short sighted in approach. If you take a look at India's recent past, we have had captains who used to be forthright with their speeches (Sourav Ganguly) needs to be remembered. Dravid's first and foremost concerns is to build an all-conquering team, and in all this he technically does not want any tongue-in-cheek with any forms of media. The day when we see India climbing to the top of the ladder in the ICC Test and ODI Rankings , we may say a different PR face of Dravid. At least so I think.

Mr. Gooch's comments

I completely agree with Mr. Gooch that Dravid hams and is talking
inanities to the press. It seems like he is going through a ritual and I
think he has adopted it as a coping mechanism for a rather dull and at
the same time caustic media..

Gooch's article on Dravid
by Dharma on Apr 11, 2006 06:05 AM

What is Graham Gooch trying to tell.He starts of with Dravid not being straight in his views, how boring he can be and whether he called his team mates to find if they were safe. He then goes on tlaking about Dravid as a batsmen which all know and then concludes with an advice to Dravid that he should not ignore his batting being a captain. To sum up: What is Graham Gooch trying to tell?

Good Piece!

Never knew Gooch could write so good!

Precise and up to the point. Not a word less and not one more.

I agree with his assessment of Dravid. As he is on the field "Mr. Perfect" wantedly tries to portray the same image in his off-field interviews. But, he is mentally tough and seems to be in control of the side all the time for the short time he has been the captain. He might be soft outside but he is a tough nut inside. I think India will prosper under his leadership. I hope he and India goes a notch above what Ganguly achieved for India in the hay days.

reply to the comment of Gooch.

Respected and dear Gooch,I appreciate your comment on the reaction of our Indians when the team is on the brink of losing. But not all states do that.South Indians never react in such a way.example of that when they played with the WestIndias in vijayawada,A.P,southInda, the last oneday and Indians lost it,the series went to the WestIndians.some people left the ground in the second innings but most of them stayed till the end and didn't disturb the match.we live next to the stadium and I watched match and the praises of ICC from England about the vijayawada people of peace.Thank you for bringing out the best back-bone nature of Dravid.sarah.

Dravid can do without some of Gooch's advice
by satya on Apr 10, 2006 08:12 PM

Who doubts Dravid's honesty? And who doesn't like his humility, politeness & graceful behavior; he has let his performance on the field answer his critics; better let it be so; We would love Dravid to continue to be boring in his elocution, rather stir things up with his tongue (which he will not) & lose the focus on the cricket; Many a cricketer have been carried away by trying to be a hero off the field, rather than concentrate on the work on the field.

i agree but dont give it as a trend..
by saby on Apr 10, 2006 08:11 PM

There is no trend of deterirating pitches and crowd behavior in India ..if u r forgeting just few months back we hosted SL and SA without much fuss..there are far worse problems of Racism in Australia and England and In SA to be observed then this.. we are cricket crazy just like Soccer fans In UK who r far more worse i think u know tht..but did FIFA stopped staging matches in Europe and UK ..NO..wht do u think abt that? i think thys shd consider the status of Aussie ground situations for holding matches..the fire and arson is less worse then racial profiling of players of SA and SL ..it shows they will do anything to win..why Warne is still playing when the world knows his conduct but no body says but Murli is called for Noball by the crowd ..unless u dont want to agree..then its hypocrisy then its no point to argue here or is it? as far as dravid is concerned may b u r rite but people learn with time so he will its just few months since he became captain..give him some more time and then analyse him ..i think his batting is going on alrite withouth anyhint of pressure..and its always better to say few words then rather say too much and then come later to for mopping..read it
