media--necessary evil for many.
by jeejaprakash on Oct 01, 2005 02:11 PM

am not a person from the media, but i am sharing these views of mine with great authority, and even greater responsibility to our society at large. It is disgusting to see how these so-called heroes of cricket use and throw the media to their advantage. When they want to rise high in the popularity charts, they will suck up to the media, but when they know they are in troubled waters, they condemn the media--just like the men in politics! Shastri is no exception I am sure. Why do these men endorse products then, isn't product marketing a part of their media hungry motives? Can Sachin , Saurav, and Dravid stop endorsing products which anyway they may not believe in? O no! They cannot do that, because their crickeing careers may die soon if they don't take runs or wickets, but this money which are lying in thier bank accounts will most certainly be there for future--talk of rainy days if they ever see any!!!!So why blame media--they need this media to rake in the crores, then am sure they can bear with a little nonsense from the media as well!

Wake Up

Hello Ravi

Inspite of medias warcry to remove the nonperforming Gangully, u guys are deaf and refuse to recognize reality. On top of the same, u are directing the media to be restraint in a democratic country like India. I think u have forgotten the saying "One will learn from criticism". It seems u guys want to continue and make money without bothering to work for the Indian Crickets future/nation !!! If people like u are at the helm of affairs, the begining of the end has started for Indian Cricket !!!

Shastri's Interview
by Prabhakar on Oct 01, 2005 09:47 AM

Mr. Ravi Shastri is 100% right about this critical and core issue of Indian Cricket. Media has cooked enough food on this issue, so far.

Great way to go, Mr. Shastri
by Thomas on Oct 01, 2005 08:19 AM

The indian media is too cruel on their own cricket captains. I believe almost all the Indian captains had to go throught this grind. Whenever a captain is off-form, the media wants his head to roll. The public too is no better in this situation. Enormous is the pressure we put on a captain. We all want the captian to see India through a win, right? Arent we winning? Yes we are. We are second only to Austraila as we came runners up in the biggest challenge in cricket - the World Cup. Forget the ratings. And try to support a leader. Everybody cannot be leaders. The rest can be good supporters. Why try to make things worse?

Media restraint
by Pranab on Oct 01, 2005 12:20 AM

There is no doubt that we come to know what goes on and off the field from those who cover and report it.Can there be a law passed asking for restraints? Shastri has admitted that there indeed was a threatening fiasco between Sourav and Chappell. The media can never be blamed as such.We are a cricket loving nation and restraints on issues of such a 'magnitude',the second in nature after the match fixing scandal in Indian Cricket,as quoted by Shastri himself, will continue to be a point of referance in the coming days.Shastri's call must be respected, but we want nothing but the truth.

PS: THE TRUTH: SOURAV MUST SCORE RUNS AND CHAPPELL MUST MAKE INDIA WINNERS.

Hope all will be well!
by VILAS P HEGDE on Sep 30, 2005 08:25 PM

None can dispute Ravi Shastri's good intentions and it is fondly hoped that the 'truce' arrived at will last in the interest of Indian Cricket. In the rate race for TRPS, electronic media no doubt goes overboard and one fervently hopes the media will learn to undrplay events. This is not to say that every thing is hunky dory with the present team. The coming series against Sril Lanka and Soth Africa is bound to be a trial by fire for Sourav ( and Grag as well) and it will be interesting to see whose head will roll after that. Greg may or may not be there but the writing on the wall is clear for Sourav. His days are numbered.

Nice one shastri
by Raghu on Sep 30, 2005 08:02 PM

That was one nice message to the media from Shastri.....So, Media atleast now.. we need no more "expert" comments on the issues.. just let the cricket have some personal time to itself.....

Media is important, I agree.. without which there is no way anyone would know about the happenings but the bothering part is the spice thats added to the issues...and prejudiced comments (there are very very few exceptions) of the report writers....

Good Luck to indian cricket......!! Go Team ..

Yeah well, if the on-field action during the Zim-Ind series had been even a tenth as interesting as Team India's off-field antics, I doubt the media would have been this enamoured by this so-called controversy. I for one was more interested in the Chappell-Ganguly stand-off than in match reports of hopelessly one-sided games whose outcomes were known so far in advance that these reports could have been pre-written with just a few blanks left for player names. That said, as a fan, one can only hope that the coach & captain remain professional and bury their differences for the sake of the team's welfare. As it is, Pak/Eng/SL are probably rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of destroying a Team-India that's presently riddled by dissension in the ranks. Let's not forget that we still have a home record that needs defending. This issue pales in comparison to the firestorm that would be ignited if we were to lose a home test series to Pak or England !!!
