Disgraceful BCCI
by umesh srinivasan on Oct 02, 2005 12:39 PM

The way the whole captain coach affair has been handled leaves a big question mark on the credibility of the president of BCCI Mr.Ranbir Singh Mahendra. How come a confidential e-mail sent to the board president by the coach was made available to the media? A commission has to be appointed to look into this serious issue. This was a good enough reason for Greg Chappell to resign, but the job is too lucrative for him to let go. After all, even he is human trying to make the most of his gains. Where do we go from here? It is high time the former players were allowed to administer the game and not let politicians pick and choose players to please regional associations. Mr.Jagmohan Dalmiya and his clones have contributed enough to Indian Cricket and its high time they say bye to the BCCI. Let players be picked on merit and sincerity rather than past reputations and statistics. Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor and Allan Border were all great players yet were overlooked to accommodate youngsters who deserved a break. Its high time our great Ganguly too stepped down gracefully without trying to play to the galleries.

It's expected...
by Kushal Kr Ganguly on Sep 28, 2005 07:07 PM

The decision of BCCI was much expected one..nothing new. Now it's time for Chapell & Ganguly to prove themselves for the betterment of Indian Cricket.

Mr.Ganguly: No doubt that u have done a lot to get the height where Indian cricket is today, but it does not mean you have become the godfather of Indian cricket. So, please think about your performances & seriously do something for this otherwise I don't think Indian Cricket is seriously needed a NON PLAYING CAPTAIN for so long..also keep a good relation with Mr Chapell for the betterment of Indian Cricket & your future too..pl forget everything & concentrate on Cricket & Cricket only with all your team mates as you have done earlier.

Mr Chapell: We believe you had a very good rapot with Mr Ganguly before all these issues, then what happened now..we think you have understand the policies of Indian Cricket..hence we being a serious Cricket lover..our only request to you is to forget everything & work together so that you can start a fresh where Mr Wright has left & we are very sure that you have the capacity to take Indian Cricket to the level where we want to see it..i.e. win the WC 2007.

Ganguly & BCCI together - irretrievable with Ganguly around
by Joe Paulson on Sep 28, 2005 11:26 AM

The decision to blame the media and referring to as `miscommuncation' is a farce and taking the cricket loving people of India for granted. the mishappenings between the Coach and captain is that has surfaced in the recent past is far from false or any miscommunication and the people of India are convinced of the fact that Ganguly can go to any extent of criticising or abusing anybody if left unpunished like this. Why sparing Harbhajan has voiced their view. The players are being terrorized by Ganguly and Dalmiya around (who is the reason behind all this episode).

Steve Waugh in his column in The HINDU has given a vivid and clear picture of what is cricket in India all about and also favours the idea of Ganguly stepping down. He can join film industry and do a bit of acting as he is a misfit in this GENTLEMAN's game.

His temperament of playing hide and seek game with Coach (of this high calibre and integrity) is beyond and explanation and needs treatment of spoiling the name of our nation among the outsiders.

He can be even be tried in court for this offence of making things public what is going on in the Dressing room just to get the sympathy of public (Bengalis)

Ganguly - Chappell misunderstanding
by Mohan on Sep 28, 2005 11:22 AM

It is matter of simple observation that Ganguly, with all due respects to him as a competent batsman, never expressed maturity and sportsmanship justifying his position as a captain of a cricketing country's team. Captaincy calls for extreme patience, understanding, calm disposition, quick judgment and decision and above all the nerves of steel to infuse positive thought into the team to steer them to victory. Sourav always lacked this. Even for that matter, Sachin too was not a mature captain. The true test of captaincy is the way one reacts in the wake of deep crisis to bring back the team to a position of winning advantage by careful decision taking at appropriate times. Players should certainly have good knowledge of the history of sports and situations when great sportsmen rose to the occasion to express tact and right strategy to bring themselves back into a postion of calling the shots. Ramanathan Krishnan who had lost two sets and trailing by two points in the third set came back with a decisive victory by winning the third and the rest of the sets to win the match. These is but one instance of Indians displaying excellent sportsmanspirit.

Public Opinion
by Madhu on Sep 28, 2005 09:19 AM

This forced truce will result in nothing but a dance of disinterested partners.
Indain cricket will suffer because, after this we will have neither a good coach nor a good captain.

A tough decision would have been better.
Why not have a public opinion on this?

Ganguly-Chappel spat
by Mukul on Sep 28, 2005 09:12 AM

Hi

Even though the board has tried to solve the ongoing dispute in the best possible manner by giving it the name of confusion , but still I believe that the crack has developed between the coach and the captain which is not so easy to mend.

Well let us hope for the better.

Does BCCI think we are fools ?
by S. Rajiv on Sep 28, 2005 09:07 AM

The BCCi does think the rst of the Indians are stupid, do not understand anything at all, and can be fooled very very easily. Mr. Dalmiya, you are a commercial genius, but you have ruined cricket in India with your politics. DO NOT THINK YOU CAN FOOL US ALL.
Today is indeed a sad day when we read this in our papers, that the two, Ganguly & Chappell kissed and made up. 'They smiled at each other and shook hands.' To the best of what I know, neither Ganguly nor Greg Chappell are in Junior school to make up this way. Camouflages do not work long. Be practical and settle the issue permanently.
