The fact is that Ganguly does not deserve to have a place in the Indian team based on his performances in the international matches. Instead of finding fault in Greg Chappell, he should be asked to leave if possible gracefully.
Greg Chappell is talking sense and to find fault in him or his intentions are rediculous. This is a typical example of third world mentality of looking for conspiracy theories to discredit a person for personnel gains instead of straight forward logic of a person whos interest is to improve the team's performance is paramount!

GANGULY UNFIT TO LEAD
by AGK.KUMAR on Sep 24, 2005 03:25 AM

I Fully agree with Coach Greg Chappel & he is the best judge , for which India is compensating heavily.

First of all bringing Ganguly back into the team was a blunder let alone making him the Captain demoralising the rest of the team .He was a great captain and a great player and the test ban was a blessing in disguise for India , he has lost not only the form but the technique as well and there are no possitive vibrations now ..

I would also comment that replacing an inform wicket keeper batsman Dhoni stating he is not a test player is another tragedy to unfold....

Let team India win and let matured captains show the way..

chapell seems to be taking revenge for something else

I see a big problem around with this foreign coach, he might be taking revenge on Ganguly on the earlier media statements and interviews. This needs serious attention.

agreed that it is ganguly's mistake to make this spat public, but chappel too has crossed his line. atleast give the player chance to get out of his bad patch, encourage him. how do you expect his confidence level to increase after reading such depressing articles about hinself? ganguly's captainship has been excellent till now though his batting is going through bad patch. give him time and he will bounce back.

Well, just look at how badly the team performed when 'coach' chappel joined and when dravid was the captain.
And now, see how they're back in action when 'gang' has rejoined as captain. Back to winning. Of course, the opponents were minnows Zims but they were aptly minnowed with wins like 10 wickets - India's first outside.

It is time to say thanks to Saurav for his past contribution, and say good bye to him, in the larger interest of Indian Cricket.

my opinion about the whole thing

i do not care how much Chappel disagres with Ganguly or wants him out of the team. He is within his right to do so. But he cant e-mail like this. Thats breach of conduct. He should've waited till the team came back & had a clear word with the selectors.

About his suggestion to Ganguly to step down - its not for the coach to decide if the captain should step down - that too before the first test is played!! Thats for the selectors to decide. By asking Ganguly to step down, Chappel actually showed a fine disregard to the selectors & to cricketing ethics.

As for ganguly's outburst to the media - "outburst" it wasnt. Bhogle almost pulled it out of Ganguly. When asked whether it was asked of him, Ganguly had no choice but to answer in a yes or no.

& while i agree that Ganguly was wrong in hinting at Chappel's suggestion - for that should've stayed in the dressing room - I feel, sometimes it becomes difficult to keep things bottled up. For ex, even Tendulkar came out to the media about his disappointment, when left stranded at 190 odd.

Also Yuvraj's outburst after scoring 100 (in SL) shows how Chappel ruined his confidence, instead of encouraging him. Thats most unlike a good coach.

Chappel Unfit to Coach: Should be sent back to Australia
by Arindam Dasgupta on Sep 24, 2005 01:25 AM

Ever since Chappel landed in India, he has been talking big.Chappel wants to have Dravid as captain so that he can dictate terms to Dravid who is known to be quiet by nature.Having realised that with Ganguly, he wont have his say always, he is out to malign Sourav'simage. In anycase, can Chappell Dravid together take India to World Cup finals 2007.One doesnt need to be intelligent to guess that.A coach who can divide a team in the very first few months of tenure deserves to be sacked. Mr.Chapell should realise that Mr.Ganguly is not the type who will nod for everything he says. He is up against India's most successful captain. He ll be better off coaching small clubs in Australa
