Ganguly maintains silence
by v.sriram on Sep 18, 2005 09:18 AM

There are victories and victories. Some are hard fought to the death, others insouciant celebrations of superiority, few are hollow, still fewer phyrric. The victory against a side like Zimbabwe is phyrric at best and is a pointer to a larger problem within the team.

Ganguly has put himself above his team and has done irrepairable damage to the team by his words and actions in the last couple of days.

His laboured century against a bowling attack which a bunch of talented schoolboy cricketers would merrily feast on proves nothing. If any, it is a pointer to the fact that the best days are well past him.And he has the audacity to claim credit for his unconvincing century !!

Ganguly's was as effective as " one legged man in a kicking competition" !!

Ganguly will find it hard to accept that his days on the centre-stage are over. But accept he must for his own good and for the future of a team he has led with distinction so far !!

Ganguli should be captain only for Zimbabwe & Bangladesh Tests
by Purushottam Dayama on Sep 17, 2005 06:43 PM

It is well known that Ganguky is Tiger in only in Bangladesh and Zimbawbe. He couldn't do anything against even B team of West Indies in Sri Lanka. So somebody else should be captain for test and ODIs in all countries and Ganguli should be made captain only for these 2 countries. S o he can roar and skirm and may discover his form to play in team! Otherwise kicked
out. Just like Australia and England had 2 separate cptains and now they are on top, India can hope to improve its standing!!!!!!

Ganguly's captaincy

Frankly, a century after 2 years and 13 tests, that too against Zimbabwe is nothing to gloat about. This also applies to Laxman. If they cannot score runs, their inclusion in the team can never be justified. Both of them should let their bat do the talking. Otherwise, allow the likes of Yuvraj and Kaif to play, join domestic cricket to regain form. The out-of-form players should not use test matches to keep trying (and failing again and again) to regain form. Anyway, does Team India have any plans to build the team for the world cup, or just drag on anyhow for as long as the players can?
Finally, shouldn't Sachin too first regain match fitness, prove his ability in domestic cricket, and only then be included in tests or one-day internationals? Or is that only for lesser mortals? God help Greg Chapel if he suggests that, as they do in Australia!

The verdict!!
by Aravind on Sep 17, 2005 03:31 PM

The statement which ganguly gave that day really shocked all of us. But all this have been wiped out b'cos he made a good century. Laxman too made a good century. BOTH OF THEM needed that badly. And b'cos of those 100s they have survived the criticism a bit.

For me, i find Greg Chappell NOT that much reliable. John Wright was much more cooperative. Last time too, Chappell found 'quoting' huge money instead of agreeing on the terms & conditions of the BCCI when he was asked to coach India. So, how can BCCI again TRUST Chappell? Instead they should have made Amarnath, the coach. He has a GREAT understanding abt cricket. Well, hope this little dust in the air would be blown out soon!! regards to everyone,

Aravind.

Ganguly's unprofessionalism
by Srinivas on Sep 17, 2005 09:31 AM

if we see the recent announcement made by indian captain infront of camera, shows embarrassing to indian cricket. he is treating his captancy as permenent seat, he can show the telent by improving team performance and as well his own but that has not been happening. this is time ganguly should come down and give captancy to dravid or other

Ganguly maintains silence

"Good to be back in the runs"!??
He struggled for about thirty balls to get those last four runs to move from 97 to 101. He took 260 odd balls for that 101 and he thinks that's being in the runs?
The dude should be forced to face the likes of McGrath and Flintoff to see how much he can be "in the runs".
Gosh, Gavaskar was the only one who had sense to leave while still at the top. Kapil had to be dragged, kicking and screaming. Ganguly will thrive for another five years, scoring an odd century against Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

What's the big issue
by Arun on Sep 17, 2005 03:24 AM

I think Ganguly needs to focus more on his performance rather creating such issues. If Ganguly had been performing Chappel wouldn't have made any such comment in the first place. Also it would help Ganguly to clue in on what's going around him, half the cricket fans would like him to step down.

Sick of this selfish idiots
by Hari on Sep 16, 2005 10:34 PM

I am just sick of this selfish idiots who prefer their personal gains more than they care about the Country. For God sake, there are millions of people dying for Cricket, and this few individuals act in a way that they least care about them, it is only about them.
Kick out any player who puts his personal gains infront of Country's interest

Ganguly captaincy ''shame on you SG''
by ramesh subramanian on Sep 16, 2005 09:57 PM

hi! this a comment on the ganguly capatincy issue.I don't know who asked ganguly to Step down. But apparently someone did and it is being attributed to chappell. But it is shameful that ganguly chose to go public with it. When Chappell, as alleged, asked Ganguly to step down he didn't do it in the sly or in front of the media.. he probably asked him to do so in the privacy of his company with due respect to his self esteem and probably in a conversational tone. Who knows it might have been his ploy to ignite Ganguly's fire within.. However it is despicable that the ganguly,- who never spoke out when his team members such as Nayan Mongia were dropped without explanation,(in defence or otherwise) as to the real reason for the keeper being left out of the team, as it was internal matter of the team- has today, all of a sudden decided to come out with a statement on a private conversation that was supposed to have taken place between the captain (himself) and the coach!!Until this episode I considered ganguly- no matter what others said- as a complete team man who would never let indian cricket down. But today he is making a statements against the coach whose candidature he suppored.
