END OF Gang??
by S A N J I T on Oct 28, 2005 11:48 PM

One really wonders if Tendulkar or Dravid or any other similiar senior member with credentials, form, fitness and world records behind him would have wanted to comeback to the team and if they would also have been treated in the same way like Ganguly was ?

Not necessary
by Vikram Kumar Wadhwani on Oct 28, 2005 11:41 PM

With all due apologies to whomsoever is concerned, Ganguly's return to the team is not really necessary. He's shown what a bad temperament can do to a team. As of this series, I really would not appreciate him being brought back because the team is just finding its feet and we dont want a single player's ego to ruin the team's performance. We believe that we have a winning combination now and its best to leave the team as it is for the rest of the series. Why mess with something when it aint broke, thats the logic i apply here..

Wisdom of selectors
by Dheeban on Oct 28, 2005 11:29 PM

I wonder if Ganguly would have been dropped had it not been for Greg Chappell. I wonder Kiran More had the guts and thoughts on his own. This is not the first time Indian cricket is seeing some thing like this - Captain one match, dropped the next match. Venkatraghavan would testify to this. If Ganguly had been dropped after Pakistan series, I can understand. They brought him back as captain for the Zimbabwe tour and then dropped him. Have they suddenly found out in the last tour that Ganguly is not worthy of a place? It is tough to believe that some one so experienced would slump from being captain to getting dropped from the team in a matter of one tour, that too against Zimbabwe. It looks more like some one came suddenly than Ganguly's form being evident suddenly. I hope Dravid asked for Ganguly to be included in the team only to be rejected by the wise man/men. Otherwise, it is too bad. This might be a decision that may bring success, but it is not a right decision. If players are not handled properly it may lead to bad blood, distrust, division, etc.. The man who built the Indian team from scratch and made it competitive for the first time deserves a lot better treatment.

India retain winning combination
by Debraj Banerjee on Oct 28, 2005 11:18 PM

Its good to hear about the fact that india has won the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. But at the same time the news of Sourav Ganguly being not selected for the next 3 ODI's is very bad.Point is this how can the selectors forget that the TEAM INDIA that today we are proud about is actually built by Sourav Ganguly. It was actually his effort that today we can see some of the exciting names of International cricket playing for India. Not only that he is also the most succesfull captain of India. So keeping all this in mind the selection for the Team for the next 3 ODI's
without Sourav is actually an effort to bring an abrupt end to one of the most excellent Cricketing career in todays time.On justifications of Sourav not being selected in the next 3 ODI's we hear that to keep the winning combination intact this decision was taken. But how can it be possible that the most succesfull Indian captain will hamper the winning combination. He will rather act as a boost for the entire team to acheive their goal, which he has done excellently in the recent times. At the sametime he has proved that he has still cricket left in him by his performance at the Duleep Trophy match.I WISH HIM A QUICK COMEBACK

ganguly's exclusion
by chandrakanth on Oct 28, 2005 10:55 PM

It is very disappointing that ganguly has not been picked up for 3 onedayers. i m sorry to say that it is totally injustice to a player who has proved fitness and form by playing in domestic level.
where as sachin has not done well in challenger series but he was selected for the team..
In indian cricket always someone egos will be preserved .it's ganguly 's still one month back.
now it's chappel's.

Comments on Ganguly being left out
by Dr.Srijit Das on Oct 28, 2005 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

The 5 wise men of the selection committee have shown their wisdom by ignoring Ganguly. Why there was so much cry about his form and physical fitness when it had already been decided earlier that he will be left out? It happens only in India.India are lion in their own den. Let this team tour another country and let them play on bouncy tracks then one will find out how these newcomers who have no experience at all, crumble like a pack of cards.Greg Chappel is free to ask for for honest effort in one's performance but not like this type of interference.Very shameful for these selector to dump the experienced ex captain even though he showed courage to fight back.Saurav should take citizenship of another country to represent that country at least. It had happened with famous players of yesteryear like Robin Singh who was dumped even though he performed and this happening is nothing new.
We feel sorry for dada.
