With ODI team selection due for Pakistan, hopefully Dinesh Mongia will get the nod this time.
With his bowling and batting, anyday he is a better ODI cricketer than Gautam Gambhir, Murali Kartik, JP Yadav and Venugopal Rao.
He has been in absolutely fabulous form in Ranji Trophy too and has scored 4 huge hundreds in last 5-6 games for Punjab. No one deserves a place more than Dinesh.
When I see dumb and pathetic comments of guys like Verghese Koshy it is plain obvious that the moron and many others like him have no clue how cricket is played and what exactly is being said here. Sad that anyone is free to comment anything.
Fact is Mongia is a true champion. He is as talented as Yuvraj, Kaif, Rao types if not more. And I say this after years of observing Yuvraj, Mongia, Sodhi, Rathour etc. on grounds of Chandigarh.
Mongia is unfortunate because he gets edged out because of zonal politics. Otherwise he is one of the most deserving players in India.
Rather than having Murali Kartik in team, (he can never bowl 10 overs for less than 55 runs), or JP Yadav or Venugopal Rao, any day Dinesh Mongia would be a quality addition to the ODI squad.
With three superb hundreds in last 4 Ranji games and an outstanding season with Leicestershire, after Sachin, Sehwag and Dravid, he is the one who deserves a spot in the side.
If he remembers in the world he got place instead of VVS.Laxman, but he could not prove himself nor he is a geniune all rounder. We got more capable and more deserving batsman and bowlers who are young and positive thinking.Instead of getting to press he should ask him self about his failur.
Really it was a bad luck for Mongia not to be included in the team.He must be in the team but one more thing is that there can be only12 man(with ssub) in the team so at present moment the team is balanced and now the inclusion of mongia will depend on the performance of sachin because mongia can be used as an opener so its the time for sachin to left the team with full respect for his memorable services for india and should be awarded BHARAT RATNA, and must vaccant place for Mongia. Everyone's bashing Dinesh Mongia because he is one of the worst cricketers to have played cricket.
For all you Mongia lovers just look at the way he bowls.
Of all these years of watching cricket , I have never seen a more disastrous and ugly bowling action.
When he bowls it seems as though a "man whose left side is paralysed is throwing stones at a lame dog".
And if he is a spinner(as he claims to be), I have never seen any of his balls turn even a millimeter (even in our spinner friendly pitches).
He is that kind of player who makes you think that even patients with Multiple Sclerosis can play cricket.
One of the important qualities that is needed by a middle order batsman is his running between the wickets.While players like Mohd.Kaif is a master of this art, Dinesh Mongia is a good example of how you can mess things up while running.
Far from playing International cricket, he doesn't even seem to be fit for playing cricket at club-level.
Many of the messages posted here shows that the average Indian cricket fan is intelligent and has the common sense to judge a very ordinary palyer like Dinesh Mongia
