In my view Rahul, Ponting, and Vaughan are good captain. It is difficult to judge who is the best one. Winning of certain match does not only depend on the captaincy but much more on the performance of team members. All the captains can be compared only if they are tested with the same team members. Thus, I do not agree that Vaughan is one of the best captain.
The fact that he won the Ashes for his country after a gap of 18-19 years and played a good part in whole series proves he's a good captain.Ponting is only relying heavily on McGrath and Warne, once they are gone in a year or two let's see how this Aussie team will match upto England,India or any other nation.
A captain is always judged on two counts. 1. Proactiveness 2.Man-management skills.
While it is difficult for us to estimate the man-management skills of a player sitting in drawing rooms, we certainly can get ample idea on to the proactiveness of a captain.
England's Michael Vaughan certainly stands out tall in terms of proactiveness. This has been very much evident ever since the Yorkshireman took over the reigns of captaincy from Nasser Hussain.
I was first impressed by Vaughan's captaincy during the Natwest Challenge vs India in 2004 where he set brilliant fields for the attacking Indian batsmen.
Vaughan's proactivess was in full flow during the Ashes when the strong Aussie batting line-up was found wanting. The field placings for Hayden, Martyn, and Clarke were outstanding.
For a captain to be judged as the best, he must always lead by example. That is where Vaughan hasn't been that consistent. To be fair to him, only Ricky Ponting has performed consistently as a captain. If Vaughan can match up with Ponting with his batting then I'm sure he will emerge as the best in this era.
not at all, to be frank, the state in which the australians were during the ashes tour would have prompted any good decent team like new zealand to beat them too. in addition to some horrific umpiring decisions and some poor luck cost the aussies the ashes. and if duncun fletcher feels that by beating the aussies at home vaughan has become the best captain then why wasn't that the case when saurav's men beat the aussies at home in 2001 ? or duncan fletcher suffers from selective amnesia ? the real test of vaughan's captaincy will come on the sub continent, where they have just about managed to save a series in sri-lanka, then lost the one day series after the lankans beat them black and blue, the real test would be pakistan and india, and make no mistake duncan fletcher, u start looking out for excuses very fast cuz u are gonna go home a beaten and bruised side come november and february. harmisson, hoggard, jones, n flintoff will find that bowling on the sub continental wickets is kind of different from bowling in seamer friendly conditions of england, and please collingwood p for god's sake look at ur own record before u make predictions of 3 nil washouts and all that nonsense
No, not at all. To become a best capatin in the world you have to perform consistantly, as a captain as well as a player. In my views still he is far away with the quality of Steve Waigh & Ricky Ponting. They always played well under the pressure aginst all the teams in the world. Vaughan have performed well in last season but still he has to go a long way........
