Vaughan is a good captain but to say that he is the "best" is quite debatable. Just because England beat Australia in the Ashes doesn't make Vaughan the best captain. Fletcher is playing politics here. Nothing more than that. Fletcher is perhaps showing gratitude for being conferred with British citizenship on him. It is a way to say thank you to Her Majesty for turning him into a naturalised 'English'.

Vaughan still has a lot to prove in the heat and dust of sub-continental pitches and the crowds to cope with. Still he has a lot to prove Down Under. It is as premature a comment as it is sycophantic by Fletcher to reward Vaughan with the title as the 'best in the world.' Perhaps Vaughan can be rated the best of all recent English captains to have captained England. It, nevertheless, does not make him the world's best.

The madness has reached into the heads of English media and the players for they beat Australia after more than a decade. That is the fact. Time will tell if Vaughan is world's best or otherwise.

There is no doubt England played well in Ashes. But he should know that in this world there is also cricket going in other countries.Fletcher will lose his words soon.
