Arjuna has definitely got reasons to comment so. Apart from the Mohali, all other venues are just under-status; not tested and suited for genuine 1-dayers. I cant understand the reasons why the so called GURUS and PANDITS have left out venues like Ferozshah Kotla, Chinnaswamy, Chepauk, and Kochi. As Arjuna has mentioned, they should at least have thought of the 8-year gap after which the visitors are touring. Foolishness infact has been the trade mark of the Indian CONTROL PANEL!!!!
This Sri Lankan rice bag has no business to talk about the venue being in second rated towns. Sri Lanka is a third rated team & they proved it by losing to MCA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Cricket is dictated by commerce. Sri Lankans dont have the same drawing power as Australia or England or even South Africa. That a nation of under 20million people (& unlike Australia, with a similar population but much greater purchasing power) is playing on an even field with another of 1000 million is enough of an anomaly. Sri Lanka may be better than Indian first class teams (but not apparently Bombay) but that is only because they get much more opportunities to compete at a higher level. After the current set of monkeys in BCCI get thrown out, it wont be long before some soul will realize this and Sri Lanka will begin having the same status as an Indian first class team, and maybe their players will make a living as overseas players in the Indian domestic league. And maybe Arjuna will be coaching Kerala.
I dont understand what Mr Ranatunga wants. Dont you ever think there would be a seat vacant in the stadium the teams are going to play. The teams would get adequate support from indian crowd wherever you play be it trichy be it udaipur be it chittagong..
