Asking for the Moon!
by Pradeep Gaikwad on Oct 21, 2005 02:08 PM

Expecting 14 or whatever top class world cricketers - each a legend and super hero in his country and quite a few captains of national sides - to play under the leadership of a greenhorn like Smith who has a lot prove as a captain is like asking for the moon or worse. The ICC must surely have been out of its mind to expect a tough series - that too against a highly motivated team like the Aussies!

I feel they should have picked a more respected captain like Stephen Fleming and a much more assertive coach (Where were Dave Whatmore and Bob Woolmer?) if they expected the likes of Inzzy to fall in line.

Besides - and I think this was the major issue with the World XI - there was no motivation. They were merely playing against a champion side and not for any national pride.

I am sure glad Malcolm Speed decided to scrap any further embarrassments for International players and cricket (and himself as well)!

It's not a big deal. In Pak Cricket, junior player call to the senior players as "bhai" like Inzy bhai or Wasim Bhai..
And abt the grt Sehwag, He really does not what is professionalism? For him, there is not a difference between the international match and street match.
He can't be a professionl. Thats why we have talented cricketers who score tons but dont win the matches.
Am I right Inzy Bhai?????

Sehwag, Inzy scorned Smith

Well though it is bemoanable that the two players who are respected for being reticent and gentleman in game stooped to this level but I guess this was bound to happen. South Africa made Smith captain without any rhyme or reason, despite having Mark Boucher and Kallis in the team. A captain needs to earn respect. Though Smith has a decent batting record in test matches but no can say that he is a person to be respected. More than being very young he does not have that leadership quality possessed by younger lads like Mohd Kaif. His partisan preferences have already ruined the SA team and this sort of incident was bound to happen.

Aussie arrogance

This report smacks of the typical Aussie arrogance. These guys seem to imagine all kinds of nonsense and just write it without confirming with the concerned players. How does he know what happened during practise sessions etc...??

About Sehwag, those who saw the matches are witness to his exhuberance on the field, the clapping to cheer up his team mates, the bear hugs he gave to Murali and so on.

This report is just Aussie bunkum. Once their team starts winning these journalists start their crap, passing judgement on all and sundry from the opposition.
