Ganguly in form?
by Varun on Oct 15, 2005 11:31 PM

Ganguly's century against Zimbabwe, with SR well below 50, should not
at all be cited as any evidence of him being in any kind of form. Except
for Zimbabwean captian, Taibu, all other players in their team are no
better than our regional teams....so plz, for God's sake, discount that
'century'. Thanks.

Ganguly not saved by Dalmia
by Saurav Bhowmik on Oct 15, 2005 01:34 PM

It is nothing strange to know that Dalmiya might have deserted Ganguly. Dalmiya is a true business man and it is obvious that he will not put his money on Ganguly because the Royal Bengal tiger is just as an old Tiger in a circus who is just a show piece to the spectator. However, looking towards the comming BCCI election it is obvious that he will not bet on ganguly rather than supporting the members of South where Dravid is the right choice.Dalmiya is a Indian with a right choice(not Ganguly) for the indian cricket team.

Century and series win
by Anand on Oct 15, 2005 05:12 AM

What century and series win is the author talking about? Is a century and series win against today's Zimbabwe team any achiement at all? If yes, then we are measuring ourselves against pathetically low standards!

Its all about mindset

Seeing an article which so biased towards Ganguly, immediately I saw the writer. No wonder he is from Kolkata.
100 and series win against one of the weekest teams.. wow.. what an achievement. And we know, Ganguly is a master of century making against all such strong teams like kenya, bangladesh, jimbabwe. We dont forget his cunning act of pushing him to one down in world cup against Kenya, where he came late for other teams.
He tried all the short-cuts to keep him at the helm. He never understood that it cant work out in long term. See how cunningly he exposed his dressing-room talks with the coach.. just because he scored a century against a team which is weeker than India-B team.
It is really a fitting farewell for him. Celebrating people like Ganguly is not a sign of healthy mindset.

Ganguly lost Godfather or his batting form?
by UMASUTHARAO C on Oct 14, 2005 06:18 PM

The article by "Chaya from Kolkuta" is in a bad taste when she tried to bring in regional color by saying ,"South Lobby". It is mere oppertunisam. When all the time Ganguly is enjoing the favour, wht is it ? Whether he has lost the form or has a bad tennis elbow, one fact is sure, hehas shown gross disrespect to the Coach and shown total indiscipline, which could spread to the whole team and make it a wreck. It was just that the canceerous growth is severed so as not to spread to other parts. One can tolerate inefficient batting but not indiscipline!
Justice is done to the cricketing loving public, which is not "Bengal people" only!!

Did Dalmiya desert Ganguly ?
by Dr. K. Mallick on Oct 14, 2005 05:47 PM

The write-up of M. Chhaya is full of ifs and buts, more akin to an analysis after a match is lost ... like had the catch been taken in the second over, or had the direct throw hit the wickets, had the bowler not been no-balled etc. etc. If M. Chhaya's assumption that Ganguly was wearing the crown just at the pleasure of Dalmia is correct, then there is something wrong in cricket administration in our country. Equally painful is the assumption that Dravid is chosen as captain merely to please a south lobby. M. Chhaya should not forget Dravid's contribution to Indian cricket, his ICC awards last year and his current form.
May I pray M. Chhaya to be a bit more objective.

The kind of cricket BCCI plays
by K Ray on Oct 14, 2005 05:11 PM

CONGRATULATIONS, Rahul Dravid !

Dravid, the second-most technically accomplished Indian batsman so far (surpassed only by Sunil Gavaskar in this respect), has been one of the most consistent performers of Team India. He deserves this - best wishes to him.

BEWARE, Rahul Dravid !

If BCCI top brass can chop Ganguly, the best Indian captain (plus the best Indian left-hand batsman and surely one of the top ten Indian batsmen so far), in this manner to pursue their own power games, they can surely do an en-core with Dravid as well.

Whoever has heard of an overseas 2-0 series winning captain (first time outside Indian sub-continent since 1986) being removed from his position as skipper !

Except Geoffrey Boycott (dropped after scoring 246 against India in 1967), perhaps no other famous batsman has been dropped from the test team after scoring a century in his last-but-one innings. Ganguly is in illustrious company indeed !

I don't mind Ganguly being phased out (as a captain and may be as a player also) of Team India, but surely he deserves a far more gracious deal.

But who cares as long as the BCCI keeps minting money !!!
