Is Dravid the right choice?

Time can only say whether Dravid is the right choice or not?
It has been seen in the past that the burden of captaincy more often results in poor performance in the area of specilisation after selection as captain. However, Kapil Dev & Saurav Ganguly in Indian Cricket have been exception, when not only we witnessed improved performance from them, their body language inside the field became very postive after their selection as Captain.

Many cricket followers in India are of the opinion that Rahul is a 'Yes' man of the administration and not assertive enough like Saurav, who often had given chance to younsters against the wishes of some of influantial persons of the selection process.

Ganguly's era as Captain will be remembered as one of golden period of Indian cricket because of 2 reasons:-

1) During his tenure as captain so many talented youngsters got chance without any regional bias and established themselves firmly in Indian cricket.
2) The match fixing charges in Indian cricket were at full bloom when he took over as captain, the charges never resurfaced, thereby the players of the Indian cricket team could perform without such pressure.

Is Dravid the right choice as captain?
by Yvonne Rodrigues on Oct 17, 2005 10:43 AM

No. Dravid will not prove a good captain. Bad choice selectors.
Leave Dravid to concentrate on his game. We need Ganguly to captain and
steer the team. So what if the captain does not perform, he is a good
thinking and aggressive captain who confronts the toughest teams in the
toughest situation. Selectors, please leave out personal politics and
reinstate Sourav Ganguly as captain of the Indian team.

Is Dravid the right choice
by NARAYAN on Oct 16, 2005 11:20 AM

Yes. Since Dravid has done captaincy many times and is vice captain since five years there is no doubt that he will be the best captain provided:
a)he is given more chances and allow him to settle down and also give his players each player a minimum of 4 matches continuously.
b) Do not allow groupism like Harbajan and Sehwag and others still owe loyalty to Ganguly. Once they are playing under Dravid they should play for the team and for India and not for the person who is not in the team. They should their differences.
c) The captain and the coach to settle the selectors should allow some time and just not change the captain immediately.
d) one should remember that in the initial stages Mr. Dravid got so many chances then he settled well as a player in the same way he will become a great captain and batsmen there is no doubt.
Good wishes for Dravid, Greg Chappel and their team.

Narayan

Dravid, a wrong choice
by S. Padmanabhan on Oct 15, 2005 06:35 PM

Dravid of course is a wrong choice. He knows to score no singles, does not know to rotate the strike and ensures that the batsman at the other end also indulges in the dull, drab batting with his infectious batting style. He is as dispensable to ODIs as indispensable he is for Test cricket. He is unnecessarily blocking the way for an young, aspiring, dashing cricketer at the international level. When will the selectors realise this? Greg Chappell is happy, because, he is happy with anyone if it is not Sourav Ganguly. But, the selectors should think now or else, it will be too late.--
