Pollock's captaincy
by dilip mahanty on Oct 10, 2005 06:46 AM

The World X1 played as individuals with no pride, mission or committment. It was like an expensive paid holiday for them!Vettori,Murli&Sangakkara were the only ones with any sense of purpose.Lara, Kallis,Sehwag and Akhtar seemed disinterested. Pollock & Dravid were plodding along in their respective roles.Flintoff while contributing a bit with the bat looked deflated while bowling. On top of everything Pollock's captaincy was woeful.Promoting Kallis to positions 3 & 4 ahead of Dravid smacked of parochialism.Even when spin was much more effective, he did not use Gayle inplace of a profilgate Akhtar in the 2nd ODI nor did he use Adridi in the last match.Kallis, Flintoff,Akhtar and Pollock himself were being smashed all over the place yet he kept the pace attack on.His field placings were terrible. Murli and Dravid with very weak throwing arms were kept in the outfield.Others were placed in such positions that they could not even prevent twos let alone singles. To top it he lost the toss 3 times in a row!
The Selectors used reputation not form to choose the team. Why weren't Bond, Fleming, Vaughan & Razzak included?Wouldn't they have been better than Pollock,Lara,Akhtar & Afridi?
