Why not then Kapil?
by Charanjeet Singh Anand on Nov 25, 2005 01:57 PM

i am a person living in delhi.today i am retired, but i was once posted in calcutta and have stayed there for 12 years in my youth.i distinctly remember around 15-16 years, kapil dev was dropped from the team, which was led by gavaskar.a test was to be played in eden gardens, calcutta and whole of calcutta protested by saying "no kapil no test".they criticised the decision of the captain and the selectors.when the press asked kapil about calcutta's fury and agony, kapil calmly sais that he thanked the people of calcutta for supporting him in tough times.today kapil is criticising calcuttans' for the same issue.only this time it is not him,but sourav ganguly.
WHY NOW KAPIL?WHY NOT THEN?

Surely you are joking, Mr.Dev?
by Ritwick on Nov 25, 2005 01:41 PM

Mr. Kapil,
Just consider the case if your any near one, inspite of having a good record is dropped out of a team. Then what will you do in that situation?I suppose 'mums will be your word'(?), for the sake of the team or u should dare to protest.
Just that. We're fighting for a concrete reasons. To include in the team the most successful Indian skipper with recent & past records better than a lot of current ones.A player with tennis elbow is still struggling to get an even score thruout, but Sourav has to give fitness tests again & again. But I know 'There are many things in heaven & earth Mr.Dev; than are dreamt of in your philosophy'.Its more surprising & sad at the same time that senior cricketers like u make these remarks! No wonder laymen think that u ex-captains are getting envy that all ur records as skippers are now at stake!
That what the Karnataka men should;for Kumble.I dont know why they are silent. For us we have protested against the injustice on Souravda. And later
if this happens again,u can hear us protesting again & again. You say it!'If a bunch of jokers whose stats are a joke against an ableman, are given to construct something wont it be ridiculous'?

Kapil is Right!
by Ravi Dasika on Nov 25, 2005 12:49 AM

Kapil is right about captaincy and the necesity to retain a captain until he has been given a fair chance to prove himself, Arrogance is definitely not a quality that a captain should have in a team effort.

Kaps and his short memory
by Vineesh Vedsen on Nov 24, 2005 10:02 PM

Kapil has a short memory. He has so conveniently forgotten the day when the Kolkatans also protested against his not playing the Calcutta test against England Dec 84-Jan 85.

For his and Patil's deemed careless shot, Sunil Gavaskar had recommended the BCCI that both should be dropped from the next test to be played at Calcutta.

The ploy was to break Kapil's sequence of contiuous tests that he had played till then. Sandeep Patil was only used as a ploy to show Sunny innocent.

When the Indian team landed at Calcutta and played the test, there was banners all around, "No Kaps, No test".

So it is wrong to say that the Kolkatans are doing this just because Saurav is from Kolkata.

Against Kapil's opinion
by Dhiman Sen on Nov 24, 2005 01:57 PM

What Kapil will say about Ranatunga's statement? Actually Sourav's exclusion is not vital issue, but the way of his exclusion, that is vital. Kumble and V. V. S. Laxman did not get such type of treatment from the coach and selectors like Sourav. They are simply presenting the whole matter as a new era after the destruction of Gangualy's era. When they are not showing a minimum respect to a cricketer who has 15000 run in international cricket and contributed a lot to the Indian cricket, then why Kapil is not asking to the selectors and coach about this matter? Kolkatans are not protesting against their country, but their protest is against those persons(Chapel and selectors) who are insulting the national hero.

Kapil is both right and wrong.
by Vrinda Kailash on Nov 24, 2005 12:43 PM

Well when Kapil spoke about Ganguly, Anil and VVS, I think he made a point. But when he spoke about the teams for test and ODIs, I think Chappel is making it right the australian way for having seperate teams for tests and ODIs

Intolerant Calcuttans
by Ronnie Matthew on Nov 24, 2005 12:03 PM  | Hide replies

Calcutta is fasting gaining a reputation as an intolerant city that only cares about itself. Calcutta shamed itself the first time when India lost to Sri Lanka in the semi finals of the cricket world cup. The entire nation had to drop its head in shame as the world watched the rediculous behaviour of the Calcuttans. Today, Calcutta has again displayed similar behaviour by protesting the exclusion of Ganguly. What about the exclusion of Kumble and Laxman? Will Culcuttans only think about itself? Doesn't it care what the nation thinks?
