A few points to ponder over Saurav's tenure as a Captain:
* has always been above board in terms of 'integrity', unlike most captains of our recent past.
* Excellent leadership skills demonstrated over the years in terms of bringing in the aggression and hunger - most wanted in the Indian squad for years.
* Pioneer in terms of talent search, their inclusion in the Indian team and persistance with them till the 'newcomer' stabilises or proves otherwise ( as in the case of Parthiv)
.... it's a pity that we are now made to believe that it is a Greg Chapell- Dravid philosophy
* his involvement both on and off the field was far more 'voiciferous' and 'visible' in all those years, in comparison to a retiscent new Indian captain. Donot forget that his 'fire' led us to win 1O MATCHES IN A ROW IN THE LAST WORLD CUP !!
* His standing by his players and sticking to them when they were down .... at the risk ofhis own criticism is something I have not observed in any Indian captain over the last twenty years of my following cricket.
i am not a blind follower of Saurav and am aware of someof his shortcomings... but that is true of all of us.
It is good to see dravid paising spinners, but strange he likes to have tendulkar in team whoes average after return is below 20, except two matches and he has been failing since then and not ganguly, who in his bad form had average of 30. Moreover it was ganguly who supported dravid when he was going to be thrown out of team due to being too slow in batting. Strange really how decisions are made by chappell and Indian board....
