srilankan cricket strategy
by RAJEEV on Nov 05, 2005 05:35 PM

In my point of view, being lost the series, the lankans now think of playing their fancies and now in the forthcoming matches they might fight back to avoid the washout.
their strengths and moody's strategies are not going co-linearly.
We might just see them working in the coming matches .coz, now they have nothing to loose much.

HI All,
If we want to gain some thing we should lose some thing,so like that if india want to win the matches it should lose Sourav Ganguly.

Impressive column
by lgaur on Nov 05, 2005 03:34 PM

Very impressive column and reflecting a very impressive person. I'm not a cricket guru, but this is what I think. Having a mixed squad with plenty of inexperience, only thing that will help is suprising the opponent and enpowering your players. Players for the first time felt the trust from their superiors and gained confidence. Now there is not one superstar but a super team. It may not work all the time, but by that time, these youngsters will become pros. I guess that was the ides!

Any Takers?
by Shankar. C.N. on Nov 05, 2005 04:49 AM  | Hide replies

Is there some one amongst the Rediff Readers who shares my suspicion that Arjuna Ranatunga has a Ghost Writer? I have seen him speak to the Press on many occasions right from the Day he Won the World Cup. Never have I noticed his English to be so good!

Ghost or No Ghost the Columns are in good taste and very analytical, indeed.

I have read Mr.Ranatunga's previous article as well as this one and i suspected the same thing if he uses a ghost writer to write his articles.but then again,i know many people who's spoken english is not as good as their written english.

What about the Venue's issue?
by ajay on Nov 04, 2005 08:34 PM

Mr. Ranathunga,

What about the Venue's issue you raised before the begining of the series? Do you still feel Sri Lanka deserves major venues just like either an Australina team or English team deserves? ;)

Awesome Indian Performance
by Subin Alexander on Nov 04, 2005 05:45 PM

First off all Hats Off to Team India for the efforts that they have put in this one day series and which in turn has taken Lankans totally by suprise!!!

The message that Arjuna has put forth about lankans is direct and to the point. Lankans as the great Arjuna says have to rework on their strategy in handling the resurgent Indian team..i hope TOM'oody is a part of this conversation. To counter Indians at home you have to play out of this world and need come up with some thing that rattles them, for which, as was rightly said by Arjuna, that Jayasuriya would have to get going.

Also there is no need for sangakarra to open the innings when Jaya & Marvan can do the same, which gives them time on the crease and lots of confidence as well.

All the best to both the teams for rest of the series..

Good piece
by Sridhar Chari on Nov 04, 2005 05:02 PM

I think, it is very generous of Arjuna Ranatunga to laud India in this fashion. He displays his keen cricketing brain, in the way, he dissects the reasons behind the dramatic revival in the Indian team's fotunes. True, India's strength has ben its unpredictability. We have taken on some of the more 'western' qualities of player rotation and bits and pieces cricket. But it should be borne in mind that though this strategy is producing results, care must be taken that it does not throw up mediocre players like JP Yadav and Venugopal Rao.
