I was a School boy when you were playing. Yourself and G.R.Vishwanath were my heros at that time. I cannot forget your 6-52 in both the innings at Melbourne Test and Vishy's fighting 89 and 73 in the last Test at Adelaide in 1977-78.
to the man who was a champ and continues to be a rock. the rock who said : "people came to see us play and they paid for it" .. "it would not be right to accept money from them again"... when panicker visited him and tried to broach the subject when he (chandra) could use some money, get a better and decent cd player to listen to mukesh. basically the rock who resisted easy money.. they don't come any greater than that. to one of the pillars who inculcated discipline just by his presense. the discipline that endures today. others here have called him sir. chandra bhai (or whatever it is called in kannada), bhidu - happy birthday.
Dear Chandra, I have heard a lot from my father about your great bowling and Vishy's great batting and above all the honesty and sportmanship you displayed on the field. May God bless you.
It was those heady days when we heard cricket commentry on the transistor radio. The deadly quartet Chandra, Bedi,Prasanna and Venkat(later) was a treat to hear. Chandra was a deadly bowler who could take on anyone on his day. The world's best batsmen would stand rooted to the ground when a Chandra delivery would whizz past them! And the pinnacle was the oval test win in 1971! May you live long and contribute to Indian Cricket. Happy Birthday!
