ODIs to get more exciting
by Lakshman Prakash on May 18, 2005 09:34 AM

I appreciate the efforts taken by the committee to make the game more interesting. We also need to look at the stress and strain on the umpires officiating the matches. I recommend that let there be a rotation of the umpires. Out of the four umpires (including the third umpire), two umpires will be on field and after 25 overs, these two onfield umpires be substituted with the two off-field umpires. The same sequence get repeated when the other team gets to bat. This will reduce the stress on umpires, increase their concentration and will reduce the errors that can happen due to standing continuously in hot sun/adverse climates for long time. (I REQUEST THE REDIFF TO SEND MY RECOMMENDATIONS TO ICC TECHNICAL COMMITTEE)

ODI changes
by T.S.Gopalakrishnan on May 18, 2005 08:31 AM

Dear sirs,
The changes proposed may suit other sports.
But not cricket in which the uncertainties
and luck of the players are predominant and this
make the game most interesting.
if the changes are allowed now later on
they would bring in changes so that a good
batsman can play even if he gets out due
to bad decisions.Let us not tamper anymore lest
the game would loose ite charm

ODIs to get more exciting

The idea of trying to get the ODIs more exciting doesnt make sense at all. The ODIs and already pretty exciting and draw a huge crowd every match.
I would not call it cricket. The "20 overs per game", that they are trying to introduce and has found popularity among the pakistanis and other few nations is just ridiculous. Its just like playing cricket in the backyard. The batsmans job is just to swing the bat wildly at each ball and not play according to the merit of the ball.
I totally disagree with this version of the game that sunil gavasker is trying to introduce. You, would never get to see orthodox style of batting in these versions of cricket. Gavasker claims that 12 players per team would be exciting, as the captain can retire any batsman who doesnt score at a faster pace. Does that mean Dravid, the genious at building the innings and consolidating the fall of wickets would be dropped for scoring at a lesser pace?
I would agree with Gavasker on giving the liberty to the umpires to double check with the TV umpire on LBW or bat-pad catching decisions, which can be quite crucial.
I am not sure about what people think, but it would surely kill my interest in cricket.
