Who is confused - me, courts or BCCI
by ravishankar on May 14, 2005 07:22 AM

I seem to have read in other reports that the courts decided that BCCI was not a state under the Republic of India and hence the players should not be wearing the tri-color in their apparel.

Dont think that i am siding with the BCCI or justifying its profligacy with money that should rightfully go into development of the sport. I am just trying to understand why courts seem to come to different conclusions on different issues. This is definitely more important than BCCI officers making money for themselves out of cricket.

BCCI' s reply to PIL
by Vinod Bhat on May 12, 2005 03:20 PM

It is very unfortunate and sad that BCCI has termed that the team selected by it is not a national team, it is playing with emotions of Indian public in general. In my opinion BCCI should be dissolved and a government body should be given responsibility of INDIAN CRICKET.

Attorcities of BCCI !!!
by vinod on May 12, 2005 02:03 PM

TO people of India,

i solemly request the Govt of India who represent the minds and thoughts of Indian people.
To stop the control of cricket from BCCI, and to move the sport's authority to Sports Ministry of India.

if you see the arguements made by BCCI for their return statement to Petitioners, the below passage will hurt the feelings of every indian.

The BCCI filed a very interesting response. In it, the Board argued that it was a private body and thus not subject to interference and/or regulation by either the government, or the courts.

Bizarrely, the Board also argued that the team picked by the BCCI is not in point of fact the national side, but merely a team picked by the BCCI itself without government imprimatur.

how dare those buisness men can file a reply, saying court of india has no right to interfere in it. all the private, public institutions and the entire people of india should respect the verdict given by any court that belongs to mother india.

I stand by with the petitioners and also raise an alarm to the government, that whomsoever who have argued that the current indian team is a team of BCCI should be prosecuted for their statement.

If BCCI is a private body?
by Syed Habeeb Ali on May 12, 2005 01:48 PM

If BCCI is a private body and is not subjected to inference of government then they should also not subject themselves in interfering with the national values and pride which they always claims to carry over their head. Just keep sporting spirit and national spirit seperate and stop making indians fool about the cricketing spirit.

vision statement: BCCI Vs Rediff
by Chandrasekar on May 12, 2005 01:35 PM

BCCI vision statement is some thing like one can say.
1. wake up early in the morning
2. brush your teeth
3. take bath
4. wear clean uniform and
5. go to school.

what are you talking ? Its been taught in my 1 standard school book.

.We claim the players are part of Indian National Team and lots of issues were raised about possessing the Indian Flags on the helmets/t-shirts et al.
.We claim The Cricket is a religion and sachin is so called "GOD".
.we even had a "Unofficial if not adhoc" media spokes man briefing (appologising) to the public all the way from South Africa about the poor performance in the recent concluded World cup.

But OFFICIALLY they (India Senior Players) are not the "Indian Team" but of Board Control of India.

Public spends not only money but also their whole day to watch the bunch of (So Called) Patriots loosing a game.

And The BCCI is not to be questioned.
Because BCCI is Autonomus.

Then why to have the name "Board of Control for Cricket in 'INDIA' " instead they can have BCC (India) Pvt Ltd.

About Rediff Vision Statement:
Instead of BCCI, the name should be "Indian Cricket Board" or "Cricket India" and the board should have one person representing GOVT.

Help the BCCI clean up its act

While hyping up the Delhi HC judgement, you have overlooked the fact that Supreme Court passed a judgement after that in the telecast rights case, eseentially upholding BCCI's contention that it is a private body and hence not answerable to the government. And that is how it should be. It is basically a private club which is holding cricket matches to entertain people and make money. If they don't manage their affairs properly, sooner or later, people will lose interest in the game and BCCI will go out of business either to be replaced by some other game or some other club arranging cricket matches. I don't see any reason why government or courts should get involved in this. Let the market take care of it.

Rediff vision doc is comprehensive
by Shankar on May 12, 2005 12:44 PM

You have covered all of what I wanted to type out and much more in your vision document. I think that would be greatly helpful if the document can be brought to the notice of Rahul Mehra and Shantanu Sharma as soon as possible.

Regards,
Shankar
