Zia
Coach for Team India
by Zia on May 07, 2005 08:23 PM

A sucessful coach not only extracts the best on the field but also off the field. The Indian cricket woes are a result of inadequate planning/strategy and team selection. We need a coach who can develop a winning attitude, mental strength and consistency.
A coach that employs technology from different sports and gets the team to relax and enjoy the game.
We need one now and NOT before the start of the season so that he can get time to spend with the team.

The panel should have been formed much earlier
by Ajay Das on May 07, 2005 05:25 PM

Well it seems the people at BCCI atlast has awaken from their slumber. But i seems late to form a panel now. It should have been formed much much earlier maybe during the ongoing India Pakistan series. But the good thing they have formed a panel and with Shastri, Gavaskar and Venkat in it, i think they will come out with the "right coach". Actually the debate will remain as who can be the right coach if the new coach can perform like Mr. Wright did with the Indian team and above all if our boys play like they did against Pakis then you can bring God as their coach, they cant win. After all its the Players who go out and play, the coach can help them but cant play for them.
Thanks
ajay

Get a life guys!
by Anirudh Chaudhary on May 07, 2005 03:51 PM

Most of the people who have posted their opinions seem to lack basic common sense. It really surprises me to read that none of the people that have appreciated the panel have given a thought to the fact that it is the BCCI President who was authorised to and who did form the panel. Another thing that i found to be really funny is that people without cricketing credentials have been commenting on the Cricket knowledge of others! Just because they do not know the person that they are commenting about, does not, by any stretch of imagination mean that he does not possess knowledge. Anyway, I think its a good panel and I feel that one can be assured that they will put in their best effort. These days i see hardly anyone give any credit to the BCCI and its they who are responsible to a great extent that India figures amongst the top Cricket playing nations. It also seems that most of the readers arent aware that till about 4 years back Mr. Mahendra and Mr. Dalmiya were on different sides and both have enjoyed the same posts as each other in the BCCI. Its a wonder how easily one wants to believes yellow journalism and criticism and discard common sense.

No Indian should be chosen as Coach
by Ravichandran.B on May 07, 2005 02:52 PM

If a student is academically brilliant,it is not compulsary that he will do well as a teacher also.Likewise, a great player cannot be expected to be a good coach too.Coaching needs more than understanding the game, it is about harnessing the natural talent of every individual and hence coaching varies from player to player.Rememeber this: Brad Gilbert (who never won even a single Grand slam tournament in tennis in his entire career) helped Andre Agassi win 4 grand slam tournaments that too after Agassi reached the age of 29.Similarly, Bob Woolmer and John Buchanan don't have attractive figures to show as players turned both SA & Australia into World Champions because they are innovative when it comes to coaching.Imran had the special quality of spotting talent and it is no surprise that Inzamam, Akram,Waqar all spotted by Imran) turned out to be revelations for Pakistan.Kapil failed miserably?Bedi was also a flop. Why still demand an Indian to coach our team? Our Hockey team couldn't win medals due to outdated coaching methods.Let's follow Australia.Even in management, legal plagiarism is accepted.Players should be chosen based on their performances & a strict foreign coach is enough

About the selection of Captain and Coach
by Krishna B. Chavaraddi on May 07, 2005 02:47 PM

Hi,
In our opinion, Ganguly is a great captain and in his capatinship India has achieved the great hight. Now his batting form is not good. I sure definitely he should come in good form what he had earlier. So again you should give him another chance to come in his cricket life as a captain. Also, you should choice right coach to the Indian team those who will share their cricket tactics with Indian players.

Two are not enough
by David Boon on May 07, 2005 09:39 AM

Hi
I am an indian in Australia, playing at club level here,,, here, its something different in the air which you call spirit and mateship,, small things which go a long way accompanied with honesty within, like when lehmann wished to give his test spot to clarke,,, The committee looks like a joke, I would not consider Gavaskar and Shastri who, I believe, are very diplomatic to be honest in their choices,, They are gullible to power.... someone like kapil dev or bishen singh bedi who are clear and out with their say and share the same or more amount of understanding of the game would be more appropriate. John wright must have been retained long enough to pick his successor. The most influential body in the world cricket is governed by businessmen and industrialists, only in India,,, The local grounds, where I played as a kid in india are all shut down, there are only two places to play cricket left there, stadium(100 kids, 3 nets) or private clubs(Rs 500 pm),, Could it be more pathetic? BCCI is a private body, Who appointed the dalmiyas? and who is going to change it? I think players should, they are in a position to do it. I wish something happens. It hurts.

Gavaskar on the selection panel is a joke -- I can never forgive him for all the petty regionalistic politics that he indulged in when he was a captain. Who can forget his selfishness and utter disregard for Indian cricket and the fans when he deliberately scored 36 runs in 60 overs in a One day International match! . He should be banned from any cricket activity let alone being a selector solely for the above shameless display.

I guess we have to be thankful for small mercies - for example - lets rejoice that Lele is not on the selection panel!
