Imzamam wronged
by Dr T S Raman on Mar 29, 2005 08:13 AM

I was watching the match on TV and saw Imzamam's "dissent". My sympathies are with Imzamam, because his "dissent" was justified morally even if they violated the "rules" which give the umpires absolute power to do whatever they like, right or wrong. Is there no way to call the umpires to account?

Odds do even out! Inzi plays his 100th and Wins. The next one Pak plays will not be his Next. He will have to wait for one after that. Lara also will not play the First Test against Pak if the present crisis continues.

Inzy test ban and fine
by T.P. Viswanathan on Mar 28, 2005 11:32 PM

While single out Inzy? The entire pak team was doing it with impunity. I recall an instance when almost the entire Indian team was taken to task by the cricket jury.

If cricket is considered a professional game, all departments of the game should be considered alike. There are a host of national and international cricket bosses ready to pounce on players. Umpires too are humans and they commit atrocious mistakes affect the very outcome of the match. I just cannot understand why they are considered as sacrosanct! My blood boils when have the cheek to go to a player and say sorry even during the match for their bad decision.

With a third umpire and a host of electronic devices, umpires just cannot have any execuse for bad umpiring.

While I am the last man to impute anything beyond the above, I must say that more often than note such careless umpiring fuels intense betting, much to the detriment of fair game and the spectators.

T.P. Viswanahan.
