Remove Ganguly
by Prabu on Mar 29, 2005 01:52 PM

Kiran More & co - Wake up guys ,
How long would you make a professional cricketer like Dravid to sit in bench?
Dravid's proven every thing - right from being a consistent performer to showing great skill & attitude to always playing for the team .
Why do we always have 10 men in the team and a captain who does not perform at all and is not willing to learn too?
If you desperately want Sourav to lead the Team - May be the selectors can think of having "Ganguly as a Non-playing Captain a la we have in Davis cup ties".We need to appeal to ICC for a change of law, for that matter.

Sack Ganguly ???
by Vineesh Vedsen on Mar 25, 2005 08:31 PM

This is the favourite Indian topic, but a lop-sided one. Just two days back, there was an article condemning Ganguly. Though, irnically, it did say that India won 13 overseas test in 68 years and in the last 4 and a half years have won 9 abroad tests out of 19 Indian wins overall during the same period. Whose been the captain SAURAV CHANDIDAS GANGULY.

People say that he got a good team, or did he create a good one. Sehwag, Yuvraj, Kaif, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Nehra have all come good thanks to Ganguly's policy of persuasion, otherwise our greedy selectors would have long hacked them in the name of regional politics. He was called arrogant because he argued with them to allow these players proper chances. Give the captaincy to Sachin and half the Bombay Ranji XI finds it way. Give it to Dravid and he would forget that he had other bowlers than Kumble.

Sachin, Dravid, Kumble have all benefitted directly in terms of their performance under Saurav's leadership, all at the expense of the poor man's batting. The aforesaid 3 cannot lead howsoever great their careers may be.

We forget things very soon
by Sushanto on Mar 25, 2005 10:39 AM

This is an indian mentality that we forget things very soon. We all know that captaincy is a huge burden in India. Even a player of Sachin's calibre was not able to handle the pressure. Ganguly was the second best to Tendulkar both as a player and a captain and he did a very creditable job. Today when he needs the support of the nation people and ex players like Bishen Singh Bedi are criticising him. Everybody has forgotten how he played a gem of an inning when India needed someone to play a long inning and ganguly made a superb hundred none of the ex player then applauded it. Bishen Singh Bedi has a personal grudge against Ganguly and it is evident from his filthy remarks.

ganguly as captain
by paroma roy on Mar 25, 2005 12:27 AM

dada is a burden! oh! no not again ,a short pitch delivery and out. these are some of the common exclamitationswe hear when-
ever our captain comes to the crease. but only 16 months back it was his hundred which set the tonefor australia series.what other teams had never done.he is a good captain.he only has tochange hismindset surely his flexiblity skills. he is the best one in business without doubt even better than dravid since he is not the reat andler of pressure.but this man has proved his metal many a times. now he only needs to conce4ntrate on is batting by spending a lot of time at he crease and middling the right balls. the only wa o silince his
critics.

Ganguly.... hahaha
by Naresh Kumar on Mar 25, 2005 12:02 AM

What Ganguly is doing?....Nothing... absolutely noothing.. he is still in the team only becoz of the present team. Yes, Present team is capable of winning matches, so they r winning, But the ganguly is cashing that credit with the name "Most Successful Captain". Just think is he doing anything for the team? He neither bats nor bowls well. Why do we need him in the team? Dravid is a better captain. Why the selection board is not thinking about the replacement of captain? What do u think.....?

Ganguly is the best captain India ever had!!
by Ram Sankaran on Mar 24, 2005 09:08 AM

I think people are just getting on Ganguly's case for nothing. He is the best captain india ever had. He has a knack of identifying talent and pursuing with them and we can see all these players performing well at international level because of ganguly. As for his form yes its low right now but who does not go through a phase like this.. Dravid was the captain of the 2 tests we played in Pakistan and he failed in both the tests and in the 3rd he produced a gem after ganguly took over captaincy. Moral of the story without ganguly Dravid's batting will suffer and so will india. Dravid or Tendulkar will not and cannot back a player as ganguly does not they have the in your face attitude to motivate the team. Just batting alone does not guarntee sucess..otherwise Pakistan would have won all their matches just because of Inzamam's batting. So i guess we should just let this point rest that ganguly should be dropped and support the team and the captain to many more victories.

Captain Ganguly
by mohammedlodhi on Mar 24, 2005 12:40 AM

Ganguly has built this team as it is now, the key to a successsful team is playing together. there comes a point the communication becomes almost telepathic. although australian standards are definitely worth replicating but then australia has no lack of talent for now atleast. if they rest a non performing player the replacements deliver and thats not the case with other teams, mainly because of the australian cricket infrastructure.
it is very hasty to hang ganguly just because hes not performing, the point is that this captain has looked beyond everything save talent and thus he selects the team that will deliver results. moreover many starters have become respected players playing under him. so to get rid of him will be like taking sanity out of indian cricket team.
his no-nonsense approach and eye for talent has benefitted Indian cricket and it will continue to do so if he stays around for long. if you look at the statistics you will find that Ganguly has contributed positively to the team and when he has failed it has not hurt india's interest severely.
lets not talk in haste;i am sure, if Allah wills Ganguly will be the best captain India has ever produced.

laxman
by deepak nair on Mar 24, 2005 12:36 AM

This is regarding some nasty comments against laxman. He scored a fifty in the first match against pakistan and also was the highest scorer in the last match against australia. Just look at what happened to the pakis and NZ in Oz and remember that laxman scored five centuries against them. All you guys who criticise Laxman are absolutely silly, one of the reasons india has been doing well is the presence of laxman in the team. It is a shame that to prop up somebody like Yuvraj/Kaif people have to unfairly criticise somebody like Laxman!!!

captain ganguly
by deepak nair on Mar 24, 2005 12:33 AM

Mosy of the comments are very nasty towards ganguly. All these people dont have a clue what test cricket is all about and neither do they have any idea about ganguly statistics. If they follow the statistics of all captains they will see that Gangulys batting as a captain is somewhere in the middle, there are people who have been much worse than him, Michael Vaughn is a stunning example. The best average as a captain is Brian Lara (he averages 59) but his captaincy record is pathetic. Michael Vaughn has one of the worst, but his captaincy record is amazing!! The only person who could balance both is Stephen Rodger Waugh, and i think the credit for that goes to hayden/langer who gave the aussies such fantastic starts. Ganguly may not be as good as before in batting but he has played a number of cruical innings over the past two years. He is certainly the best captain that india has ever seen. Mike brearly was an ordinary batsmen but an extraordinary leader. I think Ganguly is a much better than him in batting and runs him close in captaincy.People should look at statistics before sniping at Ganguly, some Indians always want to critcise first and look at facts later!!!

keep him
by Ajay on Mar 23, 2005 08:52 PM

Do u guys care about his winning technique or the batting technique. When he's doing his part by jelling the entire team why bother him?? He not only demands respect but also commands it. Just leave him alone!!!
