All of us agree that Steve Bucknor is a very good umpire and he can too make mistakes...but is anyone monitoring how frequently does he make mistakes? Every now and then I hear that he made so and so decision wrongly. Are you going to keep your mouth shut and not do anything just because he has a reputation?
I don't know how the umpires to the elite panel are selected or for that matter even umpires for local league matches but there should be continuous monitoring and training for them if need be. I think all the umpires involved in a match should have a post match session where they are shown on TV all the decisions they made during the match, be they wrong or right. That will show them where they went wrong and they will be more alert the next time round.
There should be a rigorous training and RETRAINING schedule funded by the ICC. Also some sort of incentive package which would ensure that the umpires are kept on their toes at all times. At the moment, these guys do not feel any pressure with regards to their jobs and I believe they could do with some.....
