Cricket Test at Mohali
by Basu Srinivasan on Mar 13, 2005 01:05 PM

India should have won this test match. In explicably slow batting by Tendulkar & Laxman cost us this match. This added to the delay due to rain, left India with insufficient time to chase the 200 + runs required for victory. Unfortunately it seemed that Tendulkar' stay at the wicket was more towards breaking Gavaskar's record and joining the 10K club. In the event neither took place.

I was really sad the way Sachin Tendulkar batted. It seemed as though he just cares for his records.

urgency
by Kushal on Mar 13, 2005 09:42 AM

Hi there,
Well on day 5 It was a splended batting performance from Razzaq and Akmal, but I would like to share some of my toughts that when India were batting in the last session of day three they could have showed a urgency to score more runs instead of batting on a fourth day. I think batting on fourth day has slightly costed the match to India. Sachin could have batted more aggressively in the last session of third day.
And another thing is that catches were falling short in the slips, no one thought of comming up a bit in the slips so that the other chances should not go begggy, after doing this atleast we dont have any sort of dissatisfaction in our mind that we didnt tried of that. But now I think may be some of our players might be thinking of that.
I agree that Indian captian might be thinking that we didnt have enought lead and thought of batting on the fourth day, but on fourth day also we batting little long.

Post Card from Pakistan
This is real Pakistan.
by Post Card from Pakistan on Mar 13, 2005 03:59 AM

Facing a crowd of over 30,000, a young man with less than 10 matches to his credit, caused the most experienced bowler in the Indian Line Up (Anil Kumble) to toil hard to even get an edge. This is the real Pakistan for the Indians. The best of the Indians are not even close to the worst of the Pakistanis. This match looked like a one way traffic but I think honours have been taken up by Pakistan in the end. Pakistan, considered the underdogs, showed that a fluke in Pakistan would remain a fluke and their undeterred performances against India would continue for the future to come, just as in the past. Indians were given a lot missed chances in the field by Pakistan along with worse decision making by the umpires but still they were not able to defeat the youngest side of the world. Pity on India and hats off to Pakistan. Love you Pakistan. Love you.

MOHALI TEST AGAINST PAKISTAN
by M.R.SRINIVASAN on Mar 12, 2005 11:07 PM

It is disgusting that India did not defeat the Pakis at Mohali. Any other team would have done this.Part of the blame should go to Ganguly. His field settings continues to be senseless. Million runs are given away in the arc between gully and third man and his adamance in not posting a thirdman/sweeper cover for long periods continues to hurt the team. His opening with Zaheer [a much hyped bowler who does not merit selection - 20 wickets in the last 10 tests including 2 against Bangladesh]and Sachin after lunch on the 5th day [instead of Balaji-the only bowler who bowled well] and Kumble defied logic and common sense. It looked as though all the bowlers [save Balaji]were just going through the motion and were just hoping for some foolish blunders by the batsmen. The 52 extras which includes 17 byes, and 13 wides indiates stupid, wayward bowling when the need was to bowl straight. The team never displayed the will to win. Indeed the team deserved to lose this match for the kind of attitude and approach it displayed.Ganguly has been the best captain ever for India but time has come to replace him given his funky batting and sub-standard skill in setting the field.

foolish captain
by ujjwal on Mar 12, 2005 10:05 PM

what on earth is our useless captain in our team doing? why is he called an agressive captain when, with his willow, he is an absolute timid against short pitched bowling? just compae him with flemming, ponting, inzamaam, smith and vaughan where does he stand in leading the team from the front.he is the only destabilising element n the team. throw him into the dustbin and see how we perform. at seems at the moment the entire strategy of ganguly is to save his skin. he doesnt want to expose his batting limitations and hence people like laxman get criticesed.

Ganguly must take responsibility
by suresh on Mar 12, 2005 09:48 PM

Ganguly has been apassenger for too long in this team. as a batsman he is using up a slot that can be filled better by Yuvraj or Kaif. maybe he i sout of form but if he puts the team first he shd sit on the sidelines and serve as an advisor until he regains his form in domestic cricket.
as acaptain, much is made of his attitude. this "new' attitude is not his alone but springs instead from the youth and talent fo the players who have to fight hardfor every slot in the team. there are quality options today for every position, from opening, to w-keeping, to spin and pace. only sehwag, dravid, kumble and sachin deserve to remain unchallenged. and now ghambir and balaji if stays consistent.
ganguly cannot bowl at teh international level. he is not a particularly gifted reader of the game. so he is at best as good as dravid or sachin in other areas of captaincy.
he tends to bring himself on where others would doteh job better. with his form he shd have demoted himself to #7 after laxman and that may have got us to a better score sooner. and then perhaps the result wud have been different.
india has alot of experienced players and cannot afford a non-playing captain or a team of 10.

VERY BAD END
by MADAVAN on Mar 12, 2005 08:50 PM

The match result shows that Indian Team is still not taking any effort to learn how to win a Match which has to win by them with a limited effort.

Though everybody can say that both Razzaq and Kamal batted very well for their team to save the match but the fact that Indian Team bowlers helped them very well by displaying very poor show.

Usually they used to say Cricket is a funny game but Indian Players are very funny.

However we hope and expect that atleast in next matches whether Indians will try to save the test match by not losing very bad.

Good luck for Ganguly and men.

With regards

Madavan
