A list of the most feared batsmen by 20 international bowlers without Andrew Symonds sounds incomplete, isn't it? How come Symonds doesn't find a place there?
Guys (All Indian/Sachin fans), The final verdict came from the real judges (who else but bowlers). Gilchrist will never accumulate as many runs or centuries compared to the likes of Sachin. But his consistently explosive batting at the top of the order is the single biggest factor for the total dominance enjoyed by Aussies in one dayers.
In my not so humble opinion,Gilchrist is not only the most feared batsman but the biggest match winner (Just like Viv Richards of the previous generation) of this generation.
I hope indian media and fans will, for once, open their eyes and stop placing Sachin on a high pedestal. I dont intend to demean Sachin in any way. But we, the indian fans, elevated him to be on par with Bradman (God in the context of Cricket).
Rating Gilchrist as most dangerous batsman in world, is true in every sense. I think Gilchrist is the Best wicket-keeper allrounder world has ever produced, and it will take a hell of time to produce another. In a true sense Gilchrist is Man with Iron Bat and Sticky Gloves.
One guy who is definitely missing from the list is Andrew Symonds!! I don't think Razzaq deserves to be on the list. Same with Sachin. People like Jayasuriya (still) and Graeme Smith can cause more damage and instill fear among opponents with their brutal strokeplay. From what we hear, the new guy Kevin Pietersen seems to be a fearsome striker of the ball. Of course, it is too early to say he would be on the top 10 list.
1. Adam Gilchrist, 2. Brian Lara, 3. Shahid Afridi, 4. Virender Sehwag, 5. Andrew Flintoff, 6. Sachin Tendulkar, 7. Chris Cairns, 8. Matthew Hayden, 9. Abdul Razzaq, 10. Ricky Ponting
Its cool to know Virender sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar are one of them.. Its just wow. I wish them to be always nightmare for blowers.
No Jayasuriya in the list? That is a big surprise! I would have expected Chris Gayle as well - but he has not performed consistently against top teams, maybe.
iam in total agreement with the bowling stalwarts, rating gilchrist the most feared batsman of them all. the sheer enigma of gilchrist at the crease is unmatched in ODI cricket. hats off to a true ODI legend
Razzaq and Cairns are the interesting choices and I was little surprised to note that Jayasuriya name is missing in that list...Checkout his recent knock for Somerset against World Champions for his audacity!
