Wake Up Guys!
by Mahesh on Aug 01, 2005 04:29 PM

Dear Rediff!
Please help us wake up guys who are still in their slumber!
India have experimented-thats good, but for the sake of experimentation?....no thats not too good...
How can we be satisfied when the result is a win against the depleted Windies? There are glaring seeds of failure in this victory...
1) Sehwag failed again with the bat....Are we trying to have an allrounder by forcing upon him to come good as a bowler? Lets hope India doesn't lose the batsman who is a potentiel match-winner and reduce him to a Robin Singh!
2) Suresh Raina got three lives-his inside edge missed his leg stump by a whisker,Ricardo became generous and then Ramdin caught the infection of generosity
3)Kaif looked out of sorts but marginally better than Yuvraj the earlier day...
4)Yuvraj just couldn't pierce the field, even on loose deliveries...
5)Barring Dravid everybody else's footwork was non-existent----which WILL be exploited even by the new inexperienced Maharoof and company
And may I ask how is the media treating India's most successful captain to date?He will have the last say!!!
Mahesh N Raghani.

Srinath must be kidding!
by Muralidhar Rao on Jul 30, 2005 01:53 PM

I hope Srinath stops taking these absurd examples. First of all let us face the hard facts. India has had very few brilliant sportsmen and and women. To name the few greats would be Prakash Padukone,Milka Singh,P.T.Usha,Sunil Gavaskar,Rahul Dravid and a few others. The present Indian bunch besides Dravid and maybe Kumble are simply not professional sportsmen. They are at best top level club players and to expect them to take a leaf out of Lance is asking them to do the impossible. Indians and Lance, what a joke!

Indian cricketers should learn from Lance
by Dino on Jul 30, 2005 09:56 AM

We can give thousands of examples like Lance Armstrong ..the catch line is mind always wins over body..and more important is winning in mind..One need to act for his own success and be best in his department and everything will collaborate to the victory.
When it comes to team games ..in a situation with scoring 50 runs in last 4 overs for example ..even our last batsman must have the confidence that he can pull a victory ..Phycologically he must quit his bowlers mentality and force himself on the oponent like for example Lance Klusner(who is a fast bowler suddenly rise to fame cos of his maddening batting)..common boss u neeed to see the ball and hit it hard and make it cross the boundary ..have the guts of this Lance tooo...

Cheerss..I will not say we must win..but we will win if as mention my the writer..we are strong @ mind

An intelligent write-up.
It is time to decide and nominate a new Captain from the point of view of World Cup 2007.People are fed up of controversies of Saurav and infact in case he is relieved of Captaincy problem , probably he may sustain in the batting line up till World Cup 2007.Good for India and for Saurav also.

Fast bowling
by Ajit Khare on Jul 30, 2005 08:13 AM

Srinath is one of very few Indian fast bowlers after Kapil Dev,who could make their mark.Fact remains that the hot and humid atmosphere in India is not conducive for fast bowling. It is all rounder players like Yuvraj who will be winning matches abroad for India.

Indian Cricket

It is high time that BCCI and the who's who in Indian cricket atart thinking beyond Sachin and Saurav. With due credits and full marks to the contibution made by these stalwarts of Indian cricket, the thought process should now go beyond these gentlemen and look into the future.

As Javagal Srinath has stated in his column, the tri nation Indian Oil Cup in Sri Lanka is definitely a blessing in disguise to spot new talents and groom them to face the nuances of top class cricket and pave the way for winning the World Cup 2007.

We are capable of winning the World Cup. Well, we have done it once and that too against the mighty Windies of the early 80's.

Subramanian

No right to comment----
by Rock on Jul 30, 2005 02:33 AM

Hello Mr. Srinath,
You have no right to talk about cricketers getting injured as i would like you to remember your past when you were a player.
You have the right to comment on others only when you havent suffered such things.
Many of your prime playing days were lost due to injuries and you retired at a much earlier age than say McGrath or Walsh or Ambrose.(They have a right to comment).

It is easy to give 'FUNDA'...
by Sandeep Maharia on Jul 29, 2005 11:50 PM

Srinath,
When you were in playing eleven, in how many matches you applied this theory..??
Once people are not in 'field' they provide all kind of so called 'FUNDA' to everyone.

Good luck team india.
Sandeep
