Well a captain should understand his levels and the contributions to his country and team.Sourav may be good at managing players(I am not pronouncing this as leadership intensionally since leader contributes first in all major events of play to his country). His contribution is almost "nill" in the batting, bowling and fielding area. For the people who say that his managing players tactic itself is a good/great thing then I would say, rather than allowing him to see on the field, let him be the Non-playing captain!
For me the point is not whether Inzy is serious, being crazy, acting professional, helping sponsors or whatever. I asssume he is serious and honest. Yet this does not seem to be an over-statement.
I attribute one achievement to Saurav's captaincy - the Paradigm Shift he brought about in Team India (formerly, called the players from India). Over a decade and half long period had convinced me to forget worrying about the team work, comradery and stuff. It looked just impossible. But today, we have a classic case of a team, a leader, some great contributors or super-stars, a guru and lots of fun. This bunch is Team India. Ganguly should not share this achievement with anyone except his fellow team-mates,which he does. I don't want trophies or statistics to talk for this team. Just ensure all the faces on the field cheer-up collectively and droops simultaneously. All other achievents can be multiples of Ganguly's predecessors, but this one can never be. He has set a new trend. It will be tough for Team India to get off-track and undermine his contribution for years to come. And I am very, very serious about this opinion.
Out comes the Multanese humour. It should read as the best non-playing captain. Unfortunately, cricket does not allow the concept of non-playing captain. But trust the BCCI to implement such concepts in Indian cricket.
