Well Ranatunga should know that the Srilankan Team was well aware of the ball that are used in India , even before coming to India. Also he should remember that it was the same ball that srilankan used to reduce india for 100 -5 in both the innings. His earlier column have boosted SriLankan as the 2nd best team in the world. The comments about the ball and Muralitharan not taking wickets is just excuses for such a good team. And a senior Crickter should try to bring out the real problem with the team. The sheer lackluster batting performance by the Srilankan team looks like the real problem .
I registed with rediff so i can comment on that dumbass article Ranatunga has written. You don't expect touring conditions to be similar to the conditions at home - that's what makes away matches hard you dumbass. Stop blaming the conditions and the balls. The Lankans knew what they were getting into and couldn't handle a better Indian side. End of story
As for Tendulkar's form and his place in the team, i believe that Ranatunga should be more concerned about the state of the Lankan team. They have been thoroughly defeated in the recent one-day and test series and i am sure their morale is in the proverbial dumps. This is a whiny article and surprisingly so from Ranatunga himself.
do we need murali to have "suitable" conditions to excel? isnt he the magician who can turn the ball on ice? ranatunga should just accept that indians played him well, especially the tailenders.
As an international bowler with over 500 wickets, he should be able to adapt to different conditions.Sorry Mr Ranatunga, that just looks like a case of cry baby to me.
Again, let\'s face it, out of roughly 12 days of cricket, Murali spun his magic in one session at Delhi; otherwise Indian batsmen were simply too good. They totally blunted Murali and finished him off as threat. And Sri Lanka sans Murali is not much.
Indian batting: The top order is rusty - maybe, but India had two centuries, Sri Lanka none. Mr Ranatunga, I think Sri Lanka has serious problems in the batting department (especially Tests). Dilshan was playing as if it was a one dayer. While such pyrotechnics may be entertaining, it simply is against the team\'s interests. The way Dilshan was playing, it looked that all Indian bowlers had a good chance of getting him out every delivery. And India had just 3 batsmen to contend with - Atapattu, Jayawardhene and Sangkarra. Unfortunately, all 3 have a proclivity to commit hara-kiri one they are well set. India has Dravid, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Laxman, Yuvraj, Pathan, Dhoni.
Ranatunga should be a sport and give credit when due.
Why do rediff ask this guy to write.....i don't think anyone in SL is reading rediff anyways...this guy is very baised. how can he compare tendulkar with anyone....ganguly or VVS.....come on....if he would have compared him to LARA, Richards, Gavasker, steve...it would have made sense.....Also if he's saying that kumble got advantage due to seam of the ball.....why did'nt SL Practiced with that balls and come to india....i am sure they get SG balls in SL....when murli takes wicket he's the best when he dosen't its because of the ball.... A player is a good player where he plays.....thats the reason people talk about tendulkar as much and not even LARA....
Mr. Ranatunga plz do note that the word u coined in ur article....."EXTRAORDINARY SPINNER" abt Murali..dnt u think that gud bowler is one who performs on all kinds of wickets, conditions & nt to forget all kinds of balls...whether itz(SG or Kookabura) hard seam or soft seam or whatever it is...& if u can term him"EXTRAORDINARY SPINNER" he shd hav surely Succeeded naa!!! HE DINT....But our KUMBLE had succeeded in australia ,srilanka, england, pakistan & of course india..... anyhw i dnt wan to praise as u hav done MURALI...but dnt undervalue the performance of indian bowlers & batsmen....we are gud enough to beat pakistanis... we hav done it before in their home soil & v will do it again ....let our guy's bat & ball do the TALKING....WE ALL BELEIVE IN OUR GUYS... SHANKI FROM PONDICHERRY
I really dont know what Mr Ranatunga is try to convey when he says Laxman & Sachin should not play for themselves but for the team. Both of them scored centuries and scored useful runs for the team.
He just passed a statement without backing it up with any proof. Earlier in the article he himself said that SL batsmen were not converting their 50s in 100s.
And here he's criticizing only two batsmen who made 100s. A case of sour grapes, I guess.
Why cant you be gracious in defeat instead of saying the pitch did everything...the indians were lucky not to have batted last...its the SG ball.....and all that crap.... In case you havent noticed...Sri lanka are a very ordinary team...with one good bowler who has no more than 3 yrs left....i dont see another matchwinner in that sorry team.... do you really think Srilanka can beat india in srilanka with the current team they have.... We never complained when we lost the one day series there..... why dont you analyze ur team instead of giving you so called insights into the indian team...gosh..ur columns are so ridiculous..cant belive rediff is providing space for em...
