I feel Fleming has been serving NZ as capt for a long time now. Can we have some of his records?..
I feel he is largely underrated. We conduct polls for Ganguly, Sachin, etc, why not for the long serving ambassadors/veterans of the game like Fleming, Kallis, Pollock, etc...
This can create a great momentum, for world cup in the near future.
And as for Astle(hez like Ganguly, except that he has not captained, a useful allrounder) and Macmillian(like VVS, except that hez more dynamic on field), why dont we create analogies and throw some data on these guys too?
New Zealand has a tradition of giving long run to those out of form. Dipak Patel, Martin Sneden and Adam Parori, etc. continued to be selected despite their poor form for a number of years. Adam Parori himself resigned as he did not want to be a burden to the team. Only Shail Thomson (who incidentally had a debut along with Steven Fleming) was not given that benefit.
The present selectors have made a welcome departure.
