Whats Going on !
by Anoop P Wakade on Dec 21, 2005 01:44 PM

The Cat is out of the Bag.Now we know who was behind the chorus of "bring back ganguly ". No prizes for guessing ,but the usual suspects ,Messrs Saurav Ganguly and Jagmohan Dalmiya.Nowhere in the history of Indian sports, the exclusion of any player from the team has been discussed in the parliament.Saurav Ganguly should bear in mind that one can get into the Indian team by lobbying , but after all nobody is going ot bat or for that matter field for him (least of all Jagmohan Dalmiya or perhaps Somanath Chatterjee). And when people compare Ganguly with Sachin and Rahul for consistency ,they conveniently forget that after Sachin and Rahul were not hiding behind the captaincy for all these years ,which ganguly has been doing for a minimum of past 2 years.if Ganguly would not have been a captain then he would have been out of the team atleast 2 years back. That more than underlines about the batting contribution of Ganguly to the team.To talk of the other contributions of Ganguly to the team , there is not really much. Fieldingwise he is a disaster and juss remembered in the delhi test Ganguly was involved in 02 run outs .

Gangulys stand
by ganesh on Dec 21, 2005 09:21 AM

It is really ridiculous to note that Ganguly is even offered a meeting when he is seen playing pranks and foul means to get into the team without noticeable performance. He is beset with attitudinal problems and he is not able to accept the fact that he is a spent force. He would furthur damage the cohesion in the team if taken back again.Desicion has to taken to drop him once and for all in the interests of indian cricket.

Sourav Saga- A tragicomedy
by Ram C\'ganti on Dec 21, 2005 06:51 AM

We as a nation are suckers for losers. Sourav is a case in point. All the furore about the abysmal form of the fomer captain and losses to Pakistan are a distant memory. A painful 39 in the 2nd innings of the test is justification for spending invaluable legislature's time to discuss the issue. We cannot separate Politics nor can we keep our politicians away from the big moolah- Cricket. If there is a cause for concern firstly it was his inclusion in the team and secondly his sudden exclusion. Everyone should contribute to the teams cause and everyone should be be given a fair trial. Mr. Ganguly had his fair share. It should be the same measure for Gautham Gambhir as it is for any senior player. What is the solution? Objectivity- Consistent performance at the domestic level. No Godfathers/ mentors or political intrigue.

Unfair

Let me start with that "I was a big fan of Ganguly and supported his captaincy", But now, he has become as liability in the team, and he didnt prove anything for last 2+ years and now that he had couple of double digit score around 40s, doesnt mean he can demand the place in the team. Still he dont want to opt to be out. Moreover thanks to our Indian Speaker (not to mention who come from Bengal) agreed to discuss the issue in the parliament as such INDIAN LAWMAKERS doesnt have any issues in INDIA to be resolved, everything is perfect and you spend the public money (ofcourse in Millions), Calculate the money we spend every Minute when the MPs spend their precious time in PARLIAMENT. No individual in the history of Cricket (not only Indian Cricket) made these type of fuss around the country just for his place back in the team, Everyone in the team today fought for the place in the team and doing it continuously, but only this star cricketter stayed in the team (atleat for last couple of years) just because of the polytics, he still want to do it as long as possible, which will kill the team india's spirit and stop opportunities for the YOUNG TALLENT.

BCCI Chief is 'Transparent'
by Shankar. C.N. on Dec 21, 2005 04:36 AM

If what is reported as "those who keep a close watch feel" saying that Ganguly was assured by Pawar that he will be included in the Team to Tour Pakistan is True then Mr. Pawar is going to "Use his Powers" and 'Order' the to the Selectors
to ensure His Words are kept. Is this Not Transparent already?

We should wait for 2 days to see if this conjecture is coming true.

Rediff is nuts

Quoting from your article "But he must have extracted an assurance from the former Indian captain that he would give no reason for complaint to the team management about his behaviour both on and off the field."

You guys are killing me. Just in case you do not know, that is an opinion, not a fact. I thought you were the good reporters giving me good, unbiased, unfiltered and non-opinionated information. You're same as the rest of the media - dishing out opinions as news. I am so dissapointed.

ganguly's speaking to pawar
by Arvind on Dec 21, 2005 03:28 AM

I feel it was wrong of ganguly to ask pawar to meet him as he should have respected the team management decision of ruling him out. He cannot take the selection commitee for granted this way. the decision is a right one and should have come much earlier
