i think the aussies are not used to losing and it is for this reason that they are making a fuss of a non existent issue.madugalle should not bow to the pressure by the aussies and should do what he thinks best.

Hogwash from Ponting
by Madhu on Sep 01, 2005 01:17 PM

The Aussies are losing and they are clutching at straws. Teams that dominate don't like to be there. I recall WI skipper Lloyd's whingeing about umpiring the moment his team lost a test match in the 70s in India. The same umpires were fine so long as WI was winning. We also saw how Steve Waugh behaved once the pressure was on.

Its all Aussie hogwash. The writing is on the wall that their era of dominance is ending. They have no clue against English reverse swing.

Madugalle's fig leaf
by dilip mahanty on Sep 01, 2005 05:58 AM

Madugalle must be one of the most one eyed match referees one can find anywhere. He beats even Chris Broad! For a number of years he has been brown nosing some of the influential ICC members and keeping them happy by looking leniently at misdemeanours by players of certain countries and harshly penalising players from other countries.Excessive appeals by Shane Warne don't matter. Ponting's rude behaviour, questioning of even umpires and his subsequent comments about substitutes to the media deprives him of a mere 75% of match fees!
Madugalle's inadequate fig leaf is already blowing as he is considering the Australian appeal for change of substitution rules. One would have thought that he would back the umpires who allowed the substitutions! To go over the umpires to placate a whingeing, ageing team not used to being outplayed shows where his loyalties are!
